Tailgate thefts on the rise

Dealer(Ford) 40 miles north of me also has had maybe 5 to 10 stolen off new trucks,most in one night according to what my buddy said that works there. With in course of 1 1/2 years.My 2011 F250 also came with built in lock on t/gate.

If the theft of the gates off new trucks at the dealer lots is so commonplace, seems to me they would take better security measures....

I love the internet. I read it here a full day before the "news" ran the story. A few years ago the big thing to steal were Cat. converters. There were stories locally of thieves cutting them off new trucks with a sawzall

Several years ago I was look at trucks at a Chryslers (not Dodge) and Chevrolet dealer (incidentally they lost both franchises and went out of business with the GM/Chrysler bankruptcies), but every truck that came into the lot got the Pop-A-Locks on the tailgate until the truck was sold. They then moved the pop-a-lock to another truck. Said they had a few stolen.

One of the first things I was told when I bought my 08 F250 Super Duty was "Keep the tailgate locked". Mine has a "Geezer Gate", with the step and grab bar, and is real popular with the scumbags.

There's something seriously wrong when a tailgate, even with a built in camera, retails for $4,000.

Not trying to be sarcastic, but it probably depends on where the tailgate is manufactured....overseas would run about a quarter of what it would cost to make here.

Very true,IMHO also
I was thinking same thing as I was told what was going on by person that works there.
