Ways to smooth the inside of a pipe!

Well - you could fill it with sand, heat it with a torch and roll a pulley along the hot surface to create a dished effect. Might also try a muffler shop to see what they could do or a local tubing shop may have a crimper.

Cut a kerf on one side of the slider pipe sufficient for the weld to slide thru the kerf.

Remove the the pipe section in question and replace with a larger piece of square tubing or a piece of forged pipe.

Went to all of the tubing and muffler shops in town just to find the pipe and none of them are equipped to handle more than 2 1/2 inch pipe, even the shop that I got the pipe from!

I measured the inside with a mike and if I cut a kerf in the pipe so it will slide it will cut thru the pipe. That would be ok if it was at the 12:00 o-clock position but it is at the 3:45 position.

Air Die Grinder with 3" Extension
You can put a 2" wheel in one of these and should be able to reach at least halfway from each end. They are only $25. Do you have any friends where you used to work that could borrow one for you?
Or you could haul your tractor to a welding shop and get them to grind it for you. I would think $20 would be a fair price.

Why not get the flue pipe and don't join it, just roll it up and stuff it in, and it will expand to the diameter of the tube,. Very little work at all.

Is a ~ eighth inch wide cut thru a problem? Are you storing stuff that would fall thru?

No, a cut is no big problem except where it is located! Standing on the left side of my tractor the weld is at 3:45 ish, I plan on having the top left third of the inserted pipe open like a drawer with pipe blanks for ends or drawer fronts. The open top will be from 9:00 to 1:00 cause when you lift the FEL the 3:45 position becomes a 6:00 o-clock position and the contents of the drawer could roll out and then wedge the drawer. If the weld was at 10 to 12 o-clock position it would be no big deal and present no problem.

I hope this is all clear. The young people have a hard time thinking of a clock face cause they grew up in a digital world. I would include a picture but my wife is visiting the grandkids and has the camera with her!

Yes, its clear ... and very inconvenient no doubt. Heres an idea. Make a slug/plug that is a slide fit for the nominal ID of the tube and cut the kerf so itll slide thru, while essentially keying the slug. Drill a hole a little off center toward the kerf side, contrived to guide the [smaller] shaft of a spinning tool such that the tool/cutter just kisses the ID circumference chopping off the weld. Insert the shaft of the tool thru the plug with a little grease and drive the shaft as you pull or push the assembly thru your tube. No more weld flashing. You might be able to use wood for the plug. Oak, or cedar heartwood would be gould.:)
