Yes, its clear ... and very inconvenient no doubt. Heres an idea. Make a slug/plug that is a slide fit for the nominal ID of the tube and cut the kerf so itll slide thru, while essentially keying the slug. Drill a hole a little off center toward the kerf side, contrived to guide the [smaller] shaft of a spinning tool such that the tool/cutter just kisses the ID circumference chopping off the weld. Insert the shaft of the tool thru the plug with a little grease and drive the shaft as you pull or push the assembly thru your tube. No more weld flashing. You might be able to use wood for the plug. Oak, or cedar heartwood would be gould.:)

I did something like that but a little cruder.

Went to Lowes early this morning and got a new 3 1/2" whole saw, some non-shako nuts and a 3' piece of 5/8 all thread. Used a die/peanut grinder with a bur on for the first few inches to get started. Then I assembled all new stuff and plus a piece of pipe on the all thread for a hand hold. Chucked it up in a drill and went to reaming. After a while I held it at a angle so the blade was only cutting on the weld and 30 minutes later the tube is sliding all the way thru. Thanks  Everyone for all of your thought process to come to a solution. When the wife gets back with the camera I will post some pictures. Thanks again!:D

Good idea. I never thought of doing it that way:thumbsup: Usually weld is so hard and an intermittent cut would do a number on the teeth of the Holesaw

My Dad used a pipe of sewer and drain perforated pipe on ours. He put wood block on the ends with small eye bolts. Through the eye bolts are bolts with a pin. The bolts stop the tube from sliding out either side. The pipe was cut out for a large section leaving a troth.

This has worked great for chain storage. I am sure other tools could fit in there, but we wanted a place to store chain. It would be nice to come up with a latching mechanism to allow easy/faster access to the tube and contents.

Personally, I would put no non functioning weight out near the FEL bucket. Storage belongs rearward on the frame of the tractor, and as low as you can get it. Overhung front weight is virtually always harmful to tractor and/or FEL function.

That's a good point I hadn't thought of. Maybe not that big of a deal for some, but for every pound you store out there, that's basically a pound or so your FEL won't be able to lift.

If you plug it with pvc pipe plugs or with machined heads, which someone (4 shorts) on TBN has done and did a very nice job on them, I'm envious, then you have to carry a push rod somewhere to get whatever has settled in the middle out.

You would be correct IF I placed the wrong items in the tube. In my tube I put my 20' nylon tow sling in the middle of the tube and the smaller items on each side. Works great and never had an issue with it. With my design it's also water tight. I also used the tubes on the lower end of the FEL down by the cab for smaller items such as shackles..... Thanks for your kind words on my work :)
