I know a guy looking for a 70-80 HP tractor that would be good for handling large round bales of hay and the ability to carry the second on the rear 3PH hay fork.

He has ruled out AC's due to bad experiences. Liked a 7700 Ford but it went sky high. Enclosed cab preferred but not required. He does not have a FEL now but need help with lifting needs due to health issues.

Like the rest of us he wants a lot for little $$$. It will be parked most of the time but will be used in cold weather. The wife states he does not need one so I am going to guess $10K will be max budget. :D

What are some tractors in that class?

Bindian reported a Mahindra 7520 with FEL, low hrs, in Texas for $14.5K. Not a cab tractor tho. Will easily handle the tasks.

I have seen old 1066 IH tractors for $6000 and up with Cab.on craigslist W/O FEL. Those were good tractors and heavy 120 HP or so also. I doubt the AC would work on one that old though for that price. Lots of them on Tractorhouse.com with loaders and cabs in the $12-13K range

There are dozens of manufacturers and at least 500 models in that class, you'll have to narrow it down more.

-2wd/4wd?
-Max age?
-Price range?
-Doing lot of loader work (need a shuttle?)
-Care about weight for doing tillage too?
-Local dealer?

Gary the 1066 IH would be an option in this region. My sister had one that was her late husband (he rolled his Ford 600) and she did not get much out of it and it had a cab. A cab is nice when taking out hay in icy weather even without heat.

My uncle fed big round bales for years and years with a cabbed 806 on some pretty hilly land. Chains in the winter and a bale on the 3pt.

Before he died, he bought a new, cab 866 with all the options (the 806 didn't have a rear window and a lower window panel, etc.). So, he could turn up the heat and the radio and feed cows all morning long at -20F!

Something like my neighbor's JD 2640 tractor would do the job and fit into the budget.

4030 or 4040 Deere if you can find one that the current owner will let loose of.

That would be a good option. I talked with the guy yesterday and he really is hung up on a 6600 or 7600 Ford which is a nice option. He understands that when it comes time to sell out a nice older quality tractor/FEL is going to bring what he will pay for it today if not more depending on Inflation.

Workable old FEL/BH's have not gone down in price around here the last year for sure.

I am going for 7 new 225/70 19.5 this week for the MH just because I want new (before they go up even more in price) so we are good for another 10 years. They are to ride better than the 2002 dated R8's on it now that still look new like with great tread after 30K miles. A flat a 1000 miles from home is not good but worse for RV's if the tire blows and beats up a wheel well or worse. That can be $3K-4K in damage. I will try to sell them to someone running regional that will finish them off in a few years.

I will pass that on. Zetor is one of the best tractor made in my personal experience because they had a lift system that will put most to shame.

We just do not have nearby dealers now but I got mine near Paducah in 1992 and my business ate it in 1996. there may be one in Clarksville TN.

Ours was perhaps a 5411 orchard model with 3 cylinder and down draft exhaust. I loved that that tractor. The platform was awesome due to my physical limitations. It was so heavy I had to watch it in the swampy places.

i put a space after www. so links show up.
www. tractorhouse.com (tons of used tractors)
www. machinetrader.com (tons of construction tractors / vehicles)
www. ironsearch.com (no were as big as above 2, but lists some extras)
www. craigslist.org (not the best, but you still see listings)
www. searchtempest.com (allows you to search multi cities at once of criagslist.org)
www. ebay.com (might as well, the list tractors as well)

there is a "user" trader/seller forum here on TBN as well. clear down at the very bottom of page. www. tractorbynet.com/forums/

check local trading / advertising papers. i would imagine most local papers have an online website to see ads for tractors.

local auctions, can be a good place to find tractors as well. normally there are "large machinery" auctions 3 to 4 times a year within 1 to 2 hour drive i would assume from most folks locations.

==============

if you buy a used tractor, you best bet, is to make sure it comes with a FEL already attached and comes with it. trying to find a used FEL at a cheaper price and will fit on your tractor without a lot of modifications or extra costs for brackets can be very expensive. not to mention just buying a new FEL.

===============
the higher your price range say 10,000 bucks, the larger search radius i would be willing to look, say up to 3 to 4 hour drive. and i would imagine you could find something within a month that would be a good deal.

Whatever you do don't buy a Mahindra!! They don't use much fuel because they spend almost all of their time in the shop. We have a 7010 that was just in the shop for three weeks and is now in the same shop again having the same problem repaired. And the shop we take it to has a mechanic who does nothing but drag his *** and every time we have a problem it seems he is magically on vacation. If you ask me, if you want to buy a tractor, spend a little more money and buy an IH, Case, New Holland, Massey, or John Deere. Skimping on your farm equipment will inevitably come back to bite you straight in the ***.

Belarus would be a good choice.
I have a 84 hp belarus 800, i carrie 2 big 1300 lb bales on the front end loader and 2 rounds on a fork in the 3 point on the rear
The front axles on nearly every brand tractor of that hp can't support that weight for long on the front axle without braking spindles unless it is a Axle from a oliver or cockshutt wheatland. These axles can ease support 6000 lbs all day long.
I put one of these axles under my belarus when i got tired of braking spindles,..that is 19 years ago.
