need a small electric motor

hey guys,


I made my own striping kit on the back of my mower. Very simple. Took a piece of metal and hung it with chains behind my mower. Now what I want is a small motor that can lift up the stiping kit so that it doesent drag over the streets and all. I was thinking of a small window motor. Would some thing like this work? Windscreen wiper motor?

Boat repair shops often have heaps of old outboards lying around. Many have solid little starter motors.

But wouldn't it just be easier to pull it up with a lever of some kind?

Another thought. I have a few old cordless drills lying around. I often wonder what to do with them. Maybe you do to. All will work on 12v even though they are 12v to 18v. Nice, slow speed. Reversing switch already built in. Put a piece of steel rod in the chuck and wrap a rope around it so it can haul the striper up like a little crane.

Windscreen wiper motors are incredibly cheap, small, powerful and reliable. The main issue is most of them are not reversible without modification - the case is earthed and two cables (generally) supply the low and high speed 12v feed. However they are easy to open up - make your own isolated earth attachment (drill hole in casing to put wire through for new earth connection) then you have a two speed reversing unit by switching the positive and negative feed with switching as required.
