Looking for 2" dia grade 5 or 8 bolt that I can fab a new center pivot pin for a scraper blade I recently purchased. The previous owner had welded up the scraper so that it functioned only in one fixed position. The original pin was missing and the original plates were also busted and welded up.

I priced out a new pin from John Deere and got shocked. A new pin would run close to $300 bucks. Guess that was why it was welded up to function in the position he needed it most.

Anyways I have looked locally and have not found anything near large enough. Does anyone know of a good online source for 2" dia bolts?

What about a piece of pipe instead?

Common repair is to turn down an old axle shaft to the right diameter. Might have to get a heavy truck shaft to get one big enough. Common steel you will find at the steel yard is mild steel and won't hold up.

I don't think that pipe would be heavy enough since it is too soft and regular bar stock would also be soft. A nice chunk of oil hardening tool steel would work nice as well as the axle shaft suggested. The only problem is I do not have a lathe so that is why I was thinking a large bolt would be the easiest fix. I know they do make them in the size I need if I can find the right supplier. I found them listed on some web sites but have been unable yet to find one in stock.

I am committed to 2" diameter since that is what the old pin was and I already have the holes drilled.

Mcmaster has grade 5 and 8:
McMaster-Carr
They also have drill rod. O-1 and W-1 are easyiest to harden and temper yourself. I would probably go this route since it can be hard to predict how long the smooth shank will be on a bolt. A 12" piece will run about $50+ with shipping.
McMaster-Carr

What about a 2" ram rod, cut to length, from a hydraulic cylinder?

What's the rest of the pivot made out of? I think hardened may be overkill.

I agree. Just go to your local machine shop and have one made out of 4140 bar stock. Easy job.

McMaster-Carr 5" long grade 5 bolt 23.74 each. Plus shipping. I did business with them for a lot of years, both buying & selling. An excellent Co. in my opinion.
Fair prices and fast shipping. Several stores, if the one you contact is out, another store ships.

Good idea to check the whole blade over and see if anything else is needed before ordering 1 bolt.
