3120 under powered?

I'm looking at a 3120/300CX with 150 hours for about $15K but am concerned that it might be under powered. Would the 3320 make that much difference? I can save about $6500 going with the used 3120 instead of the 3320. Any owners want to weigh in?

I'd primarily be using it for brush removal, some loader work, grading/leveling, eventually using a rear flail mower and running a chipper/shredder. I only have about 3.5 acres to whip into shape and then maintain.

i'd go for it if you can save that much, but is the 3320 used? comparable hours??

I've seen used 3320 with loaders in the 18k range.

If the 3320 is new thats a different story.

My dad and i both have 3320's. Both are short on power for pto work and road speed. For around the yard they do just fine. I'd guess the 3120 would be ok but will have to slow up for the mowing, possibly chipping.

The 3320 HST 300CX is effectively new. The dealer has it in their rental fleet but it has never been rented. He's asking about $21,500. He also has a 3520 in the fleet with 26 hours for $22,100. Both have nearly the full warranty left on them.

To me 150 hours doesn't seem like a lot but I guess I'll need to see it and drive it. It's hard to pass on saving $6-7K. That's a lot of implements! I should also note that the 3120 is a repo and is at a dealer as well - different dealer though.

Deere dropped the 3120 a few years ago...just wasn't a big seller (my dealer brought up the lack of power for the money).
But there are some TBNer's who own 'em and love 'em.

You can do all the work you've described with a 3120 (I did with a 790 that had about the same HP), but it might take you a bit longer. I ran a Woods 5000 chipper/shredder (same unit as the Bearcat SC5540) on that 790 with no bogging at all). The 790 had 24 PTO HP, the 3120 has 22 PTO HP...not much difference.

The price difference between the 3120 and 3320 tractors you found is, as you wrote, $6500. Is a bit more working time worth saving that $6500 to you?

I have a 3120 and mostly use it for cutting 5 acres of lawn and pastures using my 72" mmm, is it under powered for this, no. I do maintain a 1/4 mile drive blowing snow and moving gravel and I run out of traction well before running out of power. Would you notice 2 additional HP on the 3320 I wouldn't think so but that's just me. Additional HP is great and so is saving $6500 doing it.

My humble opinion is buy it and don't look back. I think it will be a great tractor for the money.

Being that you have the "under powered" question, it won't go away if you get the 3120.

I think you will be happier with the 3520, and as it's not my money, that is what I'd suggest. Be happy, if you can swing it.

I would agree with Beenthere...The 3520 is the most impressive of the 3 tractors in consideration. But, you want to maintain 3 and a half acres, therefore the 3120 is certainly the best buy for a machine that will get the job done.

Save your money and get the 3120. You will be like...:thumbsup:
