Hi,

Started talking to my dealer today about a new 3520 open station/CX loader combo. There are 2 different R4 tires available. He didn't have any 3x20 series in stock so I couldn't "see" the difference.

Would it be possible for a few people that own open station with R4 tires post a pic and identify what R4 size you have and how you rate them for load carrying ability and traction in dirt/soil? I plan on loading them on mine so please let me know if yours are loaded.

Also, if you have wheel weights, how much of a difference did they make over loaded tires?

I have used both R4s (big/small) and they seem almost identical. i cant say much with how they preform with a FEL as my Dad's 3720 has a FEL and my Grandpa's 3032E does not. I do think that the Large R4s are a little better when it comes to traction since the 3032E seems to do better pulling compared to the 3720. Something about the tires on the 3032E makes them look "hard" to me, I dont know what makes them that way, but they seem to be more stought than the small R4s. The reason they are considered Large/small is because the ones shown on the 3720 are about 1-2" smaller than the other ones. That means thay the 3720's tires make it sit about 1" lower than one with the large R4s. So after all this I will put my vote to the Large R4s, the ones shown on the 3032E.

I believe the smaller r4's have a higher load capacity and more ply. I have to admit the larger ones tread pattern does look cooler though.

I have a new 3720 cab that came originally with R1s. I wanted them for their wider stance. Very soon after purchase I discovered that the tow bar is so close to the ground that I couldn't even lower the trailer jack stand. So I bought a special tow ball that was 2" taller than standard. I mention this to demonstrate how little ground clearance there is under the 3000 series tow bar.

For unrelated reasons, the R1s soon proved to be the wrong tool for the job. I'm now replacing them with the taller of the two R4 options, specifically because they have approximately the same rolling diameter as the R1s. The shorter R4 option would have put the tow bar even closer to the ground, and I was having none of that..

The moral of the story is; if you plan to tow anything with your new 3520, get the taller R4s.
