Am I enjoying blind faith for now with my aspirin/niacin regiment?

Maybe, enjoy it. That's what I was taking the day of my heart attack.

If you NEED to know the easiest way to find out is a heart scan. It's about $99 and 15 minutes. Mine was very accurate. Blockage 30 to 40% is detectable with the scan but not detectable through symptoms, and intervention, besides statins and strict diet, are not recommended. However at that percentage it is the most likely to break up and cause a clot (more so than a 90% block).

By the way the plaque build up is very different in everyone, even in siblings. My elder brother has zero plaque. So while I have to limit my milk to non-fat soy milk, my brother can chow down on eggs bacon and steak.

Good info Don. I also do the Aspirin thing, might be time to ask the doc about the heart scan. I had one several years ago when my Cholesterol was high, but that was a few bowls of Ice cream ago:eek:

Yep, my 2 brothers are 5 & 6 years younger than I and both have had mild heart attacks and have stents installed. I've avoided such things so far. Maybe being the "older brother" has some advantages.

I ran it in my graduation T-shirt, a respectful 29 minutes!

Don, you are being too modest. That medal says "1st Place Male ages 50-59." Good for you!

My neighbor is trying to tell me that his brother in Caldwell has cholesterol levels approaching 600??? Is that even possible? I think he's in his mid 50's.

And Congrats on your accomplishments. PS. Since you are on a veggie diet, it won't bother you to know I heard the Seafood/Donut shop might be closing here in town.
