Buying Advice Need to find a PT owner in Minnesota

On my old (Dec 2000) Kohler-powered 425, there's no room under or behind the seat. In fact, the seat will slightly rub the engine housing lid in some severe articulating/oscillating scenarios. Similarly, the bottom of the seat barely clears the filler cap for the hydraulic oil.

Tim,

I stand corrected. PT does indeed show a Robin engine in the pictures on their website. I didn't know that they switched back from Kohler. Is there any difference between the two manufactureres in terms of parts availabilty?

I guess that I would have preferred the Kohler because I have the same engine on my Xmark ZT and keep expendibles on hand for it.

Thanks for the advice on the fuel injection.

I would guess the pressure in the hyd radiator would be less than 100 psi. The back pressure on hyd system is usually low.

I don't believe all the hyd fluid from the hyd pumps is returned to the tank via the radiator. I think the radiator is only cooling the hyd fluid from the charge pump, through the case of the tram/VSP pump. and wheel motor drain lines, to radiator, and then tank. If you have a hyd schematic of your hyd system, it should show the path of the fluid.

J.J.,

Thanks, I should have the schematic sometime this comming week. I hope that the PTO also goes through the cooler. I'll let ya know.

pajoube,

Thanks, PT425MIKE is in Green Bay, quite a drive but possible. I did find ANDREWB in Iowa and have sent a message. Waiting for reply. I do get to Iowa a couple times a year because Julie's mother lives there. I should probabbly check out the 422 owners as well. Julie and I really just want a look-see and maybe a couple minutes of seat time.

I have heard that snow blowers are nice and so I always keep my eyes open for a cheap one. But it is windy here and i expect I would get covered by snow spray.

I added a quick attach plate to a very used truck snow plow frame. You can pile snow 8' - 10' high.

My suspension setup felt a little strange for about the first 20 minutes but I have no problems with my feet on the pedals. But I used a low profile suspension setup.

Clumber,

In rough mowing and with other attachments, the windsheild would keep branches and debris out of your face. The rear curtain would cut down on the horse flys.

What do you think?

I think... my IH2500b with full cab had not one piece of glass that was not cracked due to brush hogging in thick stuff. That's what I think. I also think I lost several pounds through sweat when brush hogging with a cab and no AC.

If I ever would get a cab for my PT, I would make sure the glass was removable and replaceable with expanded steel mesh for those tasks.

I like your idea about the steel mesh. I don't have much level ground and don't like looking at those blades spinning around when the mower deck rolls over down hill side tipping the back end upwards.

The "hydraulic diagram" that came with my PT is nothing more than a hose routing schematic. There is no indication of flow direction, valve functions, etc. Don't expect too much.

I'm looking at my schematic right now.
The oil cooler is only used for the wheel motor circuit.
On the wheel motor circuit, the oil comes out of the vvp (variable volume pump) through the oil cooler manifold body, through the cooler and back to a return port on the tank.

However, the oil cooler manifold body is an unknown device. According to the schematic, it has no function. I would have to look under the hood to see if it exists.
