Is it possible to biuld a vehichle out of wood

aren't we already seeing some carbon fiber and kevlar body panels? and on firearms.. I've seen many composite framed recievers.. My keltes S16 ( ar15 clone..sort of ) is a composite rcvr.. etc.

Composite constructions just may be in the future.

Wood has more strength than steel weight wise. Designers may start making use of this characteristic.:thumbsup:

OK....I agree composites ARE already a part of our future. But "wood" in itself is a poor choice for "vehicles". Fasteners, glues, welding, and repairs to wood as well as variations in the grain and stucture make wood difficult to work with (not to mention rot and decay).

Of course there were lots of things made from wood in the past (and present) like ox carts , combine bearings, yadda yadda. Most have been replaced with other, better materials that can be molded, machined, welded, rivited, and such. (as you can tell I hate wood :laughing

I spent my life in the building materials game.....steel, aluminum, plastics, and more.....and working for many years for a large aluminum company. (I used to tell my kids that I Sold more materials than most people have seen. ) We made some composites....and these have promise and have "arrived". But.....Wood?.....to me, not so much.

Wood is the only way to go. Here are 2 of my boat builds ALL wood!
I love it.Not that you couldn't build this stuff out of steal or carbon fiber ,but build out wood gives alot of forgiving the other stuff wont.my $00.02 worth

I tried screws, nails, and welding with no luck. What rod and amperage do you use on spider silk?

Duh! You use dowels and wood glue. Don't waste your time with that expensive gorilla glue either. It needs to be standard yellow wood glue. :laughing::confused2:

I have Dreams of building a Sailing dory. So far the live standing Pine and Hacmatack trees have been picked out. The Oak is doubtful as they take about 50 years to produce acorns which the animals appreciate.
