Hi fellas, I might be buying a backhoe for my tractor and im lookin at the Woods line. I went to my local dealer today and asked witch one I should go with and he said either the BH70-X or the BH80-X.

Now came the prices.....
BH70-X came to $7200 installed
BH80-X came to $8400 installed

They had a BH80 there but it was loaded on a truck and sent to their other dealership right before I pulled in so all they had was a BH70 there and it looked kinda small.

Has anyone had either of these backhoe's on a tractor similar to mine in my sig, Im leaning towards the BH80 if my tractor can handle it.

Thanks guys,
Buddy

On your tractor, I'd go with the 80X. I have one on My B3030, and thought it's alot of hoe for my tractor..... it'd be appropriate for your GL. IMO, a 70X is smallish for your tractor.

I think the Grand L's will easily handle a BH90 Woods hoe, unless there is something about your cab setup that prevents using that particular model. Going with a hoe that reaches farther and deeper has offered advantages for most of the backhoe projects I've worked on since it cuts down how often you need to reposition the machine. I'd reckon that would also be particularly useful with your cab setup since you'll have to move to the driver's seat and back each time you move it. I'm sure the BH80 would work fine, but you may save yourself some climbing around and maybe be more productive with the larger model.

Grandad is correct , your Grand L will handle the BH90. If you go to Kubota .com build that is just one model that's offered for your tractor. I had the BH76 on my B3200 and the Grand L is much larger and heaver tractor.

WOW..... The BH90? Hmm, my tractor PTO hp is 28 and looking at the Woods ratings it calls for a minimum 30 PTO HP, Im not sure id want to go too big and be under powered for the hoe. I know its only its only 2hp but my tractor is on the lower end of the rated PTO power for the BH90 and I dont want to have all that hoe and not be able to use it, as in having a week feeling hoe.

There is a pretty good difference in reach between the two so that would be nice to have the extra reach so I didnt have to move as much but I can also leave the tractor in " N " and drag it around with the hoe. I work construction and have a fair amount of experience operating backhoes and excavators and I like to push and pull myself around with the hoe "when I can".
I know my tractor isnt like our equipment at work and have to be very careful but Im thinkin the BH80 might be a better fit for my tractor since it has plenty PTO hp for the BH80.
Hmm Ive got some thinking to do now!!!

Anyone ever run a BH90 on a smaller Grand L....?

I have a BH80X on a B3030 as well it it works great. If your tractor will handle the BH90 than I'd go with that. I have the mech thumb and wish I'd have gone with the hydraulic. I also wouldn't bother with the PTO pump, I'd have your tractor plumbed for rear hydraulic remotes.

So I could run the hoe off of a set of rear remotes?

Mine has a set of hydraulic hoses running from the loader control to the back of the tractor. The BH hoses hook right up. I bought mine last yr and the dealer had a special buy on the BH80X (prior yr models), it was $7500 for everything installed.

If you use the "Search" function, it looks to me like you'll be able to find some threads about a Woods BH90 (or its predecessor, the B9000) on the smaller Grand L's. The 3540 has 8.3gpm available for the implements if you use remote hydraulics instead of a separate pto pump. A Woods dealer should be able to advise how that might work with their BH90 (or maybe a phone call to Woods). The pump would eliminate any flow limitations, of course, but costs additional and is a minor hassle when attaching/detaching the BH.

Just going on what has happened to me, backhoe performance is a function of hydraulic flow more than pto horsepower, and the backhoe seems to be just as happy with moderate rpm as running at full throttle. That's in contrast to the operator - me - who needs to back off the rpm since too much flow makes everything pretty quick and jerky on my BH... a reflection of the operator, no doubt! :D Note I have a Kubota hoe, not a Woods. So your 28 pto hp might be marginal on paper but in practice may be fine. Maybe someone else can give a better comment.

Size and weight wise, I think your 3540 should handle the BH90 OK.
