CK30 HST- Steep grades on Road

Should be fine even in middle gear. But as said above, ever be on the alert for it popping out of gear which could be very bad. I have a ck30hst, 2005 and also almost stops on a steep slope just with the gears.

Also, I wouldn't use 4WD on paved roads, too much torqueing around.

Come to think of it I had the pop out of gear thing happen once, I was squirming around in the seat, by trying to sit sideways to use the sprayer behind me, and I accidentely pushed the shift out of low range into N with my big Butt:laughing:. But fortunately I was able hit the brakes quickly. No harm done, but watch out for that, if you squirm around a lot.

Hey spanky. Sorry for the delay but the grades I was talking about are both about 10 degrees.

I agree with the others who say no problem. Two things to be aware of though. Do not try and switch ranges while moving down hill. The lag time between ranges will get you moving too fast. The other is if you intend to mow these properties regularly start saving money for new front tires. Paved road travel really wears on the front tires.

Your 10 degree = 17.6 percent grade. That is a healthy grade I glad the HST tractors go up and down well.

My CK30HST is used primarily for mowing/ chores on a hilly property in WA state. I usually am in middle gear except sometimes while mowing I may need low on some steep uphill parts. Works great, never use the brakes- just the go pedal. I use 4X4 predominantly

I was wondering if tire wear on paved roads would would be an issue. Glad to know it is more on the front = smaller and hopefully not too expensive tires. I like to mow the second property about 3 to 4 times a year so the CUT will see 30 to 40 road miles a year.

The first time this year I just used the Lawn Tractor = big Lawn Riding Mower. It did cut the 2 to 3 foot grass and weeds after remowing it and second time. A finish mower is not fun with something this high.
