This seems like a good place to post this..
The Discovery Channel has a new show called "Hogs Gone Wild". Premise is teams of people are trying to rudce the population of feral hogs. It appears to be an epidemic throghout the world. These are new cockroach I guess.
I've watched the show a couple of times and never understand the process. They all seem to want to trap the hog and take it away ALIVE. Me.. Once in the trap I'd pull the .45 S&W and put a round in the head before I did anything else. Is there a reason they wont kill the animals? Or is just to add excitement to the show of having to hog-tie them to get them out of there.

One trapper that I hunted with this winter sent over 8000 head of wild hogs to market. Most of the meat is set to Europe where is is sold as "organic pork" @ about $9.00/lb. To do this they need to arrive at the processing plant alive.

Ah. Didn't know that. 8000 head? How much does a hog like this weigh and what did he get per pound?

That's the same around here. They are worth money if alive, but if dead, then you can't sell them. I don't know the laws or how it all works, but for those who run dogs and trap them for profit, they keep them alive.

The larger hogs sometimes go to 300 lbs, average about 175/200. The small ones he feeds them out to at least 100 lbs. He as a deal with a local dog food manufactures and he buys their rejected food. I think I remember him saying somewhere between $2 & $3 per pound. He is an FDA approved receiving station so other trappers in the area bring him their hogs for shipment to the processor in Dallas.
