Add Hydraulics to John Deere 325 Garden Tractor

They work ok, with that little battery, but theres nothing cheap about them, especially the ones with a 2 way valve, 400-450 bucks, might find a used one,..Iam guessin youll need to wait about 3+ minites between uses, depending on the charging capacity of your little motor Eric

3 minutes between use? that's a huge exageration... since he will only be pressurizing a few ounces of oil per lift.. that not a long duration load.. like what? a few seconds of lift? no reason it needs 3 minutes of recharge for a few seconds of use.

I've used these units plenty of times. I helped a buddy build a LOG SPLITTER using one, and it runs off the lawnmowers battery to do so...

I did not say used was 400/450,..That was for new,..and furthermore fum ducker, you are not compairing apples to apples, the 12v units..The full blown tractor trailer units,. dont come in the $200.00 range, unless, ur talkin play money,. real pumps,.cost REAL money , 4,-450 bucks, Oh, yea,.Ill take a dozen of those REAL pumps FOR,. 2 hundred,.. show up, or shut up also 3 oz of oil??, that would,nt lift, a 2in cyl more than 2in,.. what planet are u from?? If ur talkin the 219,00 dollor, ones, add 20,00 for shipping, plus the 24.99, dollor silinoid, plus shipping, thats a $270.00 4 a toy pump,..NOT a real pump, and yes,3 plus minites to recover,.a full 12,8 volts, go figure

the size pump I mentioned.. for a riding lawn mower.. IE.. 1-1.4gpm falls in that price range at the surplus center. First page I brought up had a good selection of 200$ range units.. again.. for the size I mentioned. not for a 'tractor trailer'.. still not sure why you want the guy to have a pump sized for a tractor trailer on a riding lawn mower? Tht one's perplexing. Also not sure why you are so hostile on a family oriented board the 'put up or shut up, and "fum ducker" are generally -NOT- the kind of language that members here use.

not sure where you pulled the 3 oz number from.. probably the same place you decided that a tractor trailer sized hyds unit was needed to add hyds to a riding lawn mower?

my comment was that the internal lift cyl on some tractors is only a few ounces of oil. I'm not sure if you have had the 3pt lift cyl off of a small to medium sized tractor.. like an 8n.. but the lift piston travels a few inches in a bore that's close to the size of a soda can... thus my 8oz of oil comment. from 3pt lift at full down, to 3pt lift at full up, the piston has only moved a few inches.. and oil displacement in that cyl area behind the piston is only a few ounces.. the fact the lift moved 20+ inches is just geometry of the rockshaft, and mechanical advanage vs pump pressure and piston diameter, in relation to the load you are (trying) to lift.

If you'd like to keep discusing it, I'd like to as well, though only if you wil be civil and quit using such abusive and near-foul language on this very nice board that we are on.

I hope the PO can read around the static, and perhaps hit the sites mentioned and find him a nice small affordable power unit for his machine.

I've seen many done that way, including some even done with a hand operated pump style jack or porta power hand pump...

lotsa angle to tackle this lil pri=oject. none of em wrong.. just different.

I tackled the problem on an old Allis Chalmers riding mower by adding a pulley on the front of the engine, adding an old GM power steering pump, installing the cylinder from an old Gilson tractor, purchased a valve system..........from somewhere...........then removed the spring from the power steering pump and stretched it a little at a time till I got the pressure I needed to work the attachments.

It worked like a charm:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

EDIT: The 2160 Cub Cadet I sold last year had the 'electric over hydraulic' cylinder for operating the tiller. It did a great job. (file this under 'tips on used parts to look for')

yep.. seen that too.. add on power steering pump from a junkyard plumbed in with appropriate OC valving.. lotsa ways to skin this cat.
