I am used to pulling up to my own tank and filling up when I need to, but the tank is still in Tennessee.

Where can I get off road diesel to fill 5 gallon cans? Many of the gas stations in TN carry farm diesel in addition to on road diesel but haven't seen that around LA. Is everyone siphoning from their heating oil tank or do you suck it up and pay for regular low sulphur diesel and the associated road taxes?

Can't wait to find a place and get my tanks up here.

In central maine- rural stores will sell fuel oil for heat and other places sell diesel for engines (green pump sign). Is this what you are talking about? Farmers and towns have their own fuel tanks filled by the dealers.

I use it right out of my heating oil tank. I do add some diesel additive as well. Many rural corner gas stations will have an off-road tank as well, as TC mentioned

I'll look more carefully, I haven't seen anyone advertising off road diesel. It's true I could siphon out of the heating tank and add some additive. I noticed that Deere says you should be running a cetane of 45 minimum. Most diesel I see for sale is only 40.

Definitely one of the main reasons I add the Power Service supplement and cetane boost. Not saying others are not just as good, it's just what is most easily available to me.

1*The same place that sells home heating oil. It's the same diesel.
1a*only know of 1 station in my area that has it.
2*What I would do is put a pump on my heating oil tank?
3*All fuel is now ULSD that is not taxed when used off road.
4*And i can't blame you .

5*In central maine- rural stores will sell fuel oil for heat 6*other places sell diesel for engines .
7*Farmers have their own fuel tanks filled by the dealers.
5 *and 6* But both are the same fuel.
7*Here we call them fuel suppliers or distrubitors.

8*I use it right out of my heating oil tank.
9*I do add some diesel additive as well.
10*Many rural corner gas stations will have an off-road tank .
8*That's the only to go when you allready have a heating oil tank.
9*So do i year round.
10* There is only here in my area.

13*I noticed that Deere says you should be running a cetane of 45 minimum.
14*Most diesel I see for sale is only 40.
11*The gas stations don't because 99 percent of them don't have it .
Try fuel suppliers or distrubitors.
12*That is exactly what i would do IE install an electric pump for the tank.
13*They dont'make such a thing in the us.
14* That's the best in the US.

15*Definitely one of the main reasons I add the Power Service supplement and cetane boost.
Same here.

It really depends where you are in the state.
Downeast and most places is Irving Oil, around Bangor call Dysarts and in Aroostook just go to the center of most towns.
It's a pretty big state--need to know where you are.
Off road fuel is no problem.

Oops--just caught the "LA" location.
Pretty sure there is an Irving Oil near there--I think a new place for them in Poland, ME.
Just call and ask and they are nice enough to help out

A guy could get spoiled here in the sticks, I just drive 2 blocks down to the local off road pump and filler up. :)

I mentioned this question to my neighbor who drives oil delivery trucks. he says heating oil is NOT the same as off-road diesel. The only difference between off-road diesel and regular diesel is the dye that is put in it so it can be checked by cops to make sure you're not running your truck on it ($30,000 fine).
Coastal docks would be a good place to buy it if they would sell it to you.
This is in Maine. Not sure if other states do it the same.
