So how much trouble am I in ?

Well this is going to cost me. Hit a big rock with the snow blower and the shear pin went. Re placed it and finished the job. Next time I noticed I was leaking hydraulic fluid from the PTO shaft. Thought it was the seal and so did the dealer. Went to replace it today an I found out I bused the housing holding the shaft. I think that it's that whole rear end casing ?

How does that happen? I know I make sure every rock bigger than a golf ball is at least 6' farther off my drive than I will ever be with my blower long before the snow flys. Short of intentional sabotage, I can't see ever hitting a rock big enough to smash a gearbox.

Re: KTAC in Canada is supposed to be coming if not already here. Even if your Kubota is all paid for, insurance should still be available for owners. Contact KTAC via sticky advert or perhaps call Kubota Canada in PQ.

Good luck with that but keep us posted.

I would check the length of your PTO shaft. A friend who had a BX broke the casting ( I didn't see pictures so I don't know if it was the same) because his PTO shaft was too long. While blowing snow he backed into a pile with something solid in it and broke the shear pin. But because the PTO shaft had no give it directed the force directly to the case. If I remember correctly he didn't think it was much of a hit.

I really didn't ask him much or see the damage. I just remember that he was fighting with the dealer because they sold him the tractor and a year later the snow blower. I think the problem came when they wanted money to pick his tractor up so the could bring it back to the shop to cut the shaft to size. He asked them to use a similar BX and thought they did. I guess they split the cost of the repair.

Do you have any kind of insurance on the tractor , if so , make a claim .
I have seen many of those claims paid for when I was in insurance business.
Farm insurance, specially ,will pay when you hit something like a rock with your machine.

Not knowing your financials and with the upcoming repair
perhaps it is better to think about trading in the carcass
for a new BX1860 and buying a PTO shaft with a
friction disc slip clutch as you have a lot of rocks that
heave in your driveway or lane?

The friction disc slip clutch has saved many a tractor owner
from a replacement cost "heart attack" issue.

Rear Blower?

Judging by the statements of "back half and transaxle"
I would it is the the rear P.T.O.:)

Yeah, thanks I did pick up on that ;) Also the part where he "backed into a pile".

The point I was going to make is that I believe the op's machine has a front blower, so some of his points would not apply to this situation.

Never hurts to check, though.

Wondering if you have any update for us?

We're worried about your machine (and your wallet) :(
