Hello, first post here.

I am looking for a tractor for my 3 acres to put in trees and clear the horse pasture and redo the driveway and do generel small farm stuff. in the next 1-2 year we will be gettting 10+ acres and building a house

So i have been looking at the L3800 with loader and backhoe, with auger and back blade attachements. The dealer wants 32500 out the door with tax and the attachements and they were going to throw in a free roof canopy, oh boy. That sold me, Not

Anyways is this a good price? somewhere i read that the L3800 is a base model and i should get a L3240 grand? any info would be sweet

I was going to call around and see if any dealers had a new 2009 or 2008 model laying around for sale cheaper than a 2011.

thanks sorry for the newbie questions

What kind of auger and back blade? I did a "build your own" on the website and the MSRP sans back blade and auger was $29,945, so the price doesn't "seem" all that great unless the attachments are really nice. As always, check with Barlow's for a price comparison.

My personal preference is for the Grand L, but similarly equipped, you are looking at about 5-6k difference, so only you can figure which is the right one for you. You get the HST+ and can get a stronger FEL and backhoe on the L3540, but again, whether it is worth it to you is your call. It would be to me, but not others.

From everything I have read on here people who own the L3800 are happy with them with the only real drawback being the jerky 3 point hitch.

Overall, there really isn't anything you can do with the GL that you can with he L, it just may take a little bit longer and may not be quite as smooth, but if you have never used one you probably won't notice the difference.

Good luck.

was the 29450 with tax?? My 32500 was tractor with loader, backhoe, 12" auger and box scraper, not back blade. with sales tax and setup and delviery

I dont know what the brand of attachements was. The backhoe was a Kubota with a 24" bucket

This dealer does not have any Grand L series. I have been looking at them though

EDIT: on thier website i got 30459 with out tax and without box scraper. Do all dealers just go buy MSPR or is it like buying a car, where you have 5000 dollars to nego with on the price at the dealer

8%-12% off MSRP would be a great target range.

well it seems then if i can get out the door for about 30-31k with all the options that i mentioned i should get it. I forgot to add that the backhoe has the mechanical thumb also. The dealer is talking it over i told them i would do it if i could get out the door for 30k.

is the jerky 3 point hitch only a problem when hooking things up or while using them also>?

That was without tax, we don't pay taxes on our tractors, so I often neglect to take that into account, sorry.

The jerky 3 point hitch is only jerky when you are lifting under load slowly, there are You Tube videos on this. If you are bringing it up quickly, it works fine, most just raise it all the way up and feather slowly down for precise cuts. I have farmed with tractors just like that and they are annoying at worse under some circumstances and unnoticeable under others.

Tractor dealers are just like car/truck dealers and negotiate, I don't know of anyone who has ever paid MSRP.

Well it seems that if i get it for 32k with tax its not a bad deal, still under MSPR, and if it got it for 30k it would be a good deal

No, the price doesn't seem to be off at all when you figure it all in. You might check with zmjc as he has a 3800 with FEL and BH. Weedwhacker has one, but without the BH.

I checked the paperwork on my new L5740 which included the tractor, FEL, 6 rear wheel weights and 2 remotes - I got 13% off list before we discussed my trade-in and the dealer threw in delivery - I am 150 miles from the dealership (and he is my closest dealer which indicates how far I moved from any real city when I retired).

Just one comment, are you sure you want to go with the 24" bucket on the BH? Not sure what all your tasks are with the BH but that is a big bucket and while it will do everything you want likely, a 18" might be better as it's more 'middle of the road'. Again it depends on what the majority of your tasks are.

I would say your price is not bad at all if you can get it for $30k. The thumb on the BH is expensive, between $3-3.5k if I recall so you are getting a good price.
