If you were in the market for a nice but used 4x4 cab utility tractor and had to decide between the 5083 or 5425 ONLY, which would you choose and why? Both have roughly 80/65 hp :confused2:

For argument sake, lets assume both are low hour machines. Lets also assume that the primary usage will be brush cutting, general farm maintenance and food plots.

Depends on the money. I would prefer the nicer console of the 5425. I have no complaints with my 5083, but I do like the cab of the 5425 better.

I think the 25 series was the forerunner for the current M series. As such, I believe that the 5425 will have a little heavier rear transaxle and axles, higher hydraulic output, air seat, and as AGGIE00 pointed out - a little plusher cab.

Both would likely work your projects just fine.

If I had to guess... I'd imagine that the 5425 would be more money as well.

Nowhere near the M series which has a frame similar to the 6000 series and cylinders on the 3pt as opposed to the rockshaft. All will be the same except for the cab features. After I get done beating the crap out of my 5083 improving my property I hope to trade up to the M series.

Thanks, that's good information. Makes me feel a little better about that new payment for a 5075M...

By the by - did you ever track down a chip for your 5083? Have a 93 or 101hp for the price of the 5083e?

Unfortunantly I haven't. If it was a common rail like the M series it would be easy. Since I finished my scraper work I haven't really needed the extra power. I have though replace a fender and some glass in less than 300 hours.

Hmm... I'll bet that whatever was on the other end of that situation was "bigger and not mobile"!

AK,

Make no mistake, you bought one of the best tractors out there. It is much more tractor than the 5083e.

To the Op, the 5425 hands down. Although I have never owned one, i have used one for haying. Made me fall in love with cabs and haying. In fact, my first experience was on memorial day, how appropriate. I was helping my neighbor bale my farm the first year we had it, he was in a 6400 series and let me use his 5425. At the end of the day I wanted a cigarette

The window was from pushing brush piles, and the fender was from when my neighbor borrowed it and backed into a leaning tree.
