YM1700 run a 5' tiller briefly?

Thank you thats what we all wanted to hear, "Mine are bigger than yours". I bought a smaller tractor for various reasons, one is trailerability with my current 30yr old 1/2ton truck. Cheaper smaller implements that are more common, and third is that i can do anything a 35 hp tractor can do it just takes longer. I have more time than money. If i was to never move my tractor from my farm property (which is 3 hours from my home i live) i would prolly have bought a ford 3000. But the fact that an old american tractor with a bushhog and or a disk on the trailer would be way overloading my current tow setup.

Same here, plus the fact that many folks around my area are just putting in garden plots and feel more comfortable with smaller equipment around their house and buildings and ornamental tree's
in a year or two I may step up to a bit larger tractor perhaps a 4x4 but for now my 1700 fits the bill and does most anything I expect out of it, its just a matter of knowing when not to push it too far,:thumbsup: and just as the OP has asked before putting his tractor through uncertainties of test,

Sure, I REALLY REALLY need a big boy tractor to prep my 20' x 40' garden. :cloud9: THEN I would finally be happy. (Why isn't there a sarcasm smilie?)

Thanks for all of the replies. I'm definitely one of those people that thinks of a tiller first when preparing dirt to plant. It's what people without tractors do, with the possible addition of breaking the ground with a shovel so the tiller can bite into it better -- I didn't enjoy that much, BTW.
I'm not sure if I know anyone with a disc. I should ask around 'cause it sounds like the way to go before I use the tiller. :thumbsup:

No, just something in the 30 to 40 hp range will do. You did not think it out well for your needs to come.

Remind me of my coworker who drools over the JD cabovers in the 100HP range. He has 12 acres?
He also really seriously is considering and wants a cabover tractor to mow his 6 acres or so he cuts like weekly. He cuts it cause he cant stand the bahia stalks or the yellow fake dandelion flowers that pop up.

I just got off my 2000 at dark. I've got a 4' King Kutter and it's really all the tractor wants. I have to be in either 1 or 2 lo and have the throttle pinned to keep it from bogging down in some previously tilled soil. After 2 or more passes you can walk in it you'll sink down above your ankles. Now on some new ground, I can run about 3/4 throttle and keep it rolling.
