Gun Rack

DeWalt makes all kinds of Velcro belt attachments. I use one for a rubber mallot. Works great changing attachments. I suppose you could stuff a .45 or a 10 mike in there if you had to.
I personally never could figure out why I would need protection on a 5000 pound+ Kubota? T-Rex would not try to mess with one of those and if he did, it would be a mess.

Oh come off it guys, a gun rack is a natural on the ROPS!

How else are you going to dispatch that dastardly wabbit in the carrot patch? I've never needed protection while riding my tractor, but I've had garden pests that needed killing.

And for those of us who shoot trap or sporting clays, a tractor is a natural way of getting the guns, clay pigeons and a couple of mechanical throwers out to a field. The problem is always carrying the guns, because some of those things are pretty darn expensive and scratching the wood on a fine pigeon grade shotgun can make a grown man cry.

And when I use a PHD I may not need a gun, but it sure is handy to have a couple shovels at hand. A gun rack, or some other very similar device, attached to the ROPS would certainly make it easier to carry a couple of long handle tools. I carry a limb saw, branch loppers (2 kinds), and other assorted landscape tools in the toolbox mounted behind my seat, but as my tool box is 18" tall by 16" wide, I can't get large tools like a shovel in there. I have often thought about a way to carry landscape tools on the ROPS.

Vertically mounted tools would hit the garage door frame if they extend too far up over the top of the ROPS. Tools mounted across the ROPS in a horizontal manner would not gie in the way of anything other than your rear vision if you turned around to look backwards.

I tried chasing a coyote in my tractor last fall -- it was stalking my 11 yr old dog while I was out cutting brush. Discovered that of course it could outrun the tractor. Wish I could have pulled a rifle from the rack then! All I was able to shoot was its photo before beginning the chase (attached). If someone makes a ROPS-mounted gunrack I'll buy it, especially if it doubles as a shovel rack.

We have a few of those pesky coyotes here in NW GA, too but rarely ever see them during the day. I guess they are pretty much everywhere by now, though. They are the reason that my CAR-15 would be the preferred occupant of a gun rack, if my L3710 had one.

I mounted my Ruger 44 Mag in a closed snapped leather holster attached to the side of the instrument panel (L-3130) right underneath the right hand loader valve assembly. The valve assembly keeps it from getting wet in the rain or a washdown and it is instantly available anytime I need it, like last week when I shot a seven foot diamondback five times in the body prior to putting the one decisive round into its mouth (now I've got his twelve rattles hanging off the back of the ROPS!). I did mount a chainsaw attachment to the rear of the ROPS to hold my Stilhl 028C in place for when I need it, that is extremely handy as well.

I discovered a new shooting sport last fall while bush hogging my field. I was carrying a Browning Buckmark .22 pistol in a shoulder holster and was plinking rats as I drove them out of the high grass. Sometimes if you hit them just right they do a "break dancing" kind of move. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Bob, I think I found what we are looking for. Do a search on Google or whatever for 'fin grip' and 'gun rack' They are built for ATVs and will handle guns and shovels and are under $50. Cabela's carries them, too. I've attached a pic of one and alink to the Cabela's page.

http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/pod/standard-pod-wrapped.jhtml;jsessionid=ZUBVO013O12ASCWQNVDSCNIK0BWUQIWE?id=0014920&navAction=push&navCount=1&indexId=cat20149&parentId=cat20149&parentType=index&rid=&cmCat=&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fcatalog%2Fpod-link.jhtml.4_A&_DAV=http%3A%2F%2Fa1460.g.akamai.net%2Ff%2F1460%2F1339%2F6h%2Fwww.cabelas.com%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcontent%2FPod%2F01%2F49%2F20%2Fp014920ii01.jpg

They will probably need to be attached to a bar of some kind that is then attached to the ROPs via u-bolts. Too cold to muck around with that kind of thing now, but I'll probably order a set with my next Cabelas' order. I'll let you know how they work out.

And, FWIW my purpose for taking a rifle out with me is to pop any coy dogs (coyote) I see. The local pack is pretty bold and followed my dog and me back from the cornfield earlier in the winter. While I waited in the dark by the garage to see if they would come down the farm road from the barn, I suddenly heard them in the copse of trees beside me - they had outflanked me (Felt like that guy in Jurassic Park). Wasn't worried about myself, but if my dog had gone to investigate, he could have been toast.

Here's a pic of my Mini-14 mounted on my 2210. Hey, you never know when you're going to see a coyote or a nice fat hog roaming around the hunting lease. Only problem I had was with vibration, that's why there isn't a scope on the rifle. Open sights keeps your shooting skills up.

Nice set-up. I usually carry a 9mm or .38spcl. Long gun would be much more useful.
