Hydraulic Pump Woes

Got the tractor back together today with the old pump and the very small suction line crack brazed. Pump came to life and had no problems lifting my flail mower. So my problems with the 3point were three fold: clogged suction screen (as to be expected), stuck open relief in the hydraulic control valve, and a small crack in the suction line near the outlet (higher than the sump oil level, so it didn't leak.)

Thanks to everyone who gave advice and kept me from throwing out a perfectly good pump.

Anyone know CNH's return policy? I am hoping that I won't have to ebay this new pump.

I'm glad you found the root cause of your problem and got your tractor running at a minimum of expense. I gained some knowledge about gear pumps in the process.

I'm glad you got her to work. Things like this more than anything else requires good diagnosis that more time than not is multi faceted. I was very optimistic that you'll get your old pump to work. gear pumps have simple and solid design. hyd pump is special order so there might be up to 10% restocking fee involved. Patience and systematic thinking is a virtue that bears fruit most of the time.
