That is just great!!! Very good job. We're just a week bit behind you way up here, half way to the North Pole, but now that summer has arrived, the gardens are in, much of it is up, and doing well.
So, show us your corn photos. We love to see what awaits us after while.
Yes, you sure are a long ways away from me! I've never been up north before but I have seen snow down here a few times. Snow here is like a gift. Everybody gets glued to The Weather Channel when they hear snow is coming. :laughing:
As for the corn, there is none left on the stalks. I got a Walmart bag full in the freezer. I had more but it went in our stomachs! :licking:
The corn didn't do good at all. Yeah we got a few bags full, but nothing like we should have. Back in March (see the previous pics) we had that BIG rain. I let the water stand in the garden too long on the East end and it rotted some of the seeds. Also, on that same end, the row hippers got into some of the little stalks and tore them up. The corn was VERY thin on that end! But like I said, things will be done differently next year because I am MUCH more aware on what, when, and how to do it. My Grandfather played a BIG part in this also. He shows me how to plant and I show him how to do things with the tractor!:laughing: :thumbsup:
Matter of fact, I JUST got done eating more corn and potatoes a few minutes ago that I boiled.... I boiled the potatoes in a little crab boil this time. I must say that it was absolutely delicious. BOTH THE CORN AND POTATOES WERE MOUTH WATERING. :laughing:. You don't know what you're missing! I Of course I washed my hands before I sat down at my computer, but I can STILL smell the butter and crab boil. Haha!
You might could see some of the corn stalks in the background of one of the pictures I recently uploaded.
I sure wish I could plant another crop of corn, but I think I can plant Fall potatoes too. Looking forward to that!
Might take some pictures of the watermelons tomorrow if I think about it...
Next Spring, things will be done differently on how and where I plant the different crops. This is the first garden I've ever done and I am still learning. But I do feel like I'm not a "newbie" anymore. I've been VERY fortunate to have a tractor and garden attachments to help me succeed and keep me motivated. GOD'S BEEN GOOD TO ME!! :thumbsup: Some of the older people around here have never even seen a 3 pt. hitch cultivator before. I've surprised some people on what I've accomplished, although it's not a big deal to me because I knew I could do it. You gotta WANT to do it though.
Right now we are in a MAJOR drought. Even under a fire ban... Been having to use the sprinkler(s) daily ($$ Ouch!) and tote water, using my Honda Foreman ATV, to parts of the garden where the sprinkler don't reach... Especially to the watermelons and cantaloupe!
All in all, I have been Very pleased with what we've been able to harvest out the garden thus far. With the extremely bad weather conditions we've had here, there's no way I can complain about the vegetables I've got. The peas and beans are not ready yet, but they're looking real good! The squash is doing very good also and we've done ate some several times. The cucumbers aren't producing hardly any thing because of the heat but we have gotten 10 or 12 to eat on so far. Eggplants are blooming and getting bigger but the bellpepper plants are just barely surviving although they got a few small peppers on them.
If I think about it tomorrow, I'll take some more pics.
