Thumb worth it?

Hi all,

I'm looking to purchase a Kubota L45. The backhoe thumb option is $5,000. Over the life of this tractor, do you feel the thumb will be worth the price?

I have a mechanical thumb on my TLB and have not had enough use to be happy having bought it. It's the only extra I probably wouldn't buy again.

thumb should be about $2000. + labor/welding/hoses/frt. Does this backhoe really support thumb? the high pricing might because of configuration issues.
I sold about 30 J.D. 110 TLBS, and had 5 installed for customers.

A manual thumb should only be a few hundred dollars, not a few thousand.
My Woods backhoe came with a 7 position thumb, which was a must for me.
Comes in very handy and is sure a back saver.

I hope this is a case of miscommunication between you and your dealer. Your future 45hp tractor is just 5 hp more than my NH TC40S and my blue backhoe attachment is a Woods BH90-X with a factory installed hydraulic thumb including the bucket, 4pt subframe, hose kit and pallet fee all of which two years ago came in several hundred bucks under $8500.00. The hydraulic thumb is awsome!
Contact Rosseel's Farm and Garden Supply Inc. as they sell a lot of orange backhoes, in fact all colors in the tractor rainbow.
Is a hydraulic thumb worth it? At your quoted price of $5000.00-NO.

A hydraulic thumb should be about $2000. Maybe another $ 1000 for hydraulics.

I really like my hydraulic thumb and feel it was well worth the price. If I had to make do with a mechanical thumb, I think that would be ~60% as effective as the hydraulic.

If the dealer wants $5000, look into aftermarket thumbs.

Not at that price!! But thumbs are most deffinetly a valuable addition to a BH unless all you are doing is ditching. It's really as simple as pretending that your hand is a BH bucket, what can you do with out using your thumb? ****, if my dog had thumbs he really be helpful. But that price seems way out of line.
