Oil & Fuel What weight of oil??

I have 8 hours on my X530. I was wondering about what weight of oil to use? I live in Southern Indiana. I mainly use it for mowing. But I will haul fire wood in the winter. In the winter it is in a heated garage, so there will be no cold starts..

The owner's manual says 10w30 for the midwest. That's what I'm running in my X534 over here in Kansas. Did you see the discount coupon on JDParts for the maintenance kit? It's early for the spark plugs and filters but I doubt they will be cheaper in the future.

Normally we use 15w 40 as the standard oil. I would think about a 5 or 10 w 30 oil for winter-summer use to add winter starting and summer protection to 130 deg field temps.
I also thank that 8 hr is too soon, most service is done at the 50 hr mark.

As you know 8 hours is the recommended 1st oil change due to contamination from the engine break in. For summer use the manual calls for either 15-40 or 10-40. Both give the same high temp protection, but the 10-40 will be kinder to your engine on startup. The quicker that oil gets circulating the better.

(I just did the 1st oil change on my X530 as well and love the tractor!)
