Tractor
Kubota L3540
Here goes my first post. I was bush hogging with my L3540 last night. I ran over some brances from some trees that had been cut down. One wedged under the tractor on the left side almost under my left foot. The tractor stalled out. I dis-engaged the pto and the tractor would not start. My neighbor and I cleared out the branch (3-4 inches in diamater). The tractor still would not start. The pto light is on on the dash. Battery cables were removed and put back, a couple of blown fuses were found and replaced. I got an N20 erroer and saw and error 84 at one point. My dealer was closed and not open yet so I called one on the west coast. They told me to check the wires/switch coming from the pto lever which appear fine. I see no damage to the tractor anywhere. There is a strange clicking sound if the pto shaft is rotated in either direction. The manual indicated to contact the dealer and there may be an ecu issue. Has anyone had this problem? Any ideas. I bought this tractor in Janauary of 09 and have only 36 hours on it (just got the farm my wife and I have been looking for). It appears the warranty may have been only 2 years so I am worried. I should also let you guys now there was nothing in the bush hog itself. Just the branch under the tractor. It appear the tractor thinks the pto is engaged and won't allow me to start it.

Welcome to TBN. It sounds like you may have done some damage to the wire harness. Does your tractor have a lever to engage the pto or a knob? I would take a second look and try to run your hand down the wire harness to see if you can feel any damage. I don't have a wiring diagram so I don't know if the pto switch is open or closed when off. I would also check the fuses again (just in case you have a wire that's shorting out to ground).

The tractor has a lever, I have called my dealer and they want me to check the micro switch under the pto lever. It seemed fine last night but they want me to twist the wires together to bypass the switch and see if it is bad. Nothing got up in this area from the brances but I will be trying this and checked the wiring. Thanks.

My mechanic (worled for kubota dealer, on his own now) spoke with the service manager at a local dealer. I am arrainging to have the tractor picked up. They are concerned of a major problem potentially not related to the branch I ran over in the power train. I am still hopefull there is a electrial or linkage issue but we will see. There is also discussion on whether or not I am still under warranty (I have had the tractor about 30 months with only 36 hours). My dealer advised warranty ran out at 2 years but the dealer I am taking to thinks I may have 3 on the powertrain or may be willing to go to bat w/ kubota due to my low hours. Not worried just yet.....

Ok- let us know what he says.. I have the L3240 very similar to yours.. I have 90hrs on mine with no problems but like to read on things that --could-- happen..

Just paid my bill at the Kubota Dealer and was happy to do so. One of the branches damaged the wiring harness in a hard to reach location. Easy fix and on its way back to my place. Total repairs and hauling under 200 bucks. Asked about installing a skid plate and was advised this was a very odd place to damage the wiring and probably not needed. I didn't buy from this dealer but they now have a new customer.

Glad to hear it. I have a Honda Big Red side by side. One day the part of the display that reads F, N, R just read two dashes. I looked and looked and it wasn't until a guy on a BR forum told me where the harness ran above the engine. It took me an hour to remove the seats and plastic only to find a stick somehow got up there and broke two wires in the harness. It's always amazing just where things like sticks can go.

Good deal- thats always a good thing when its something small... Wonder where in the heck that harness is? Did they say or show you?

The part of the harness damaged was under the left footboard somehwere. I didn't look for the repair last night as I didn't have time.
