Snake

Yep, copperhead. Will ruin your month if they get you on the foot. A lady here was bit and it took her a month to be able to walk without limping. She got medical treatment within about an hour if I remember correctly. That length of time might be why she had a long recouperation time.

The local state trooper killed a total of nine in 2 days. 7 of the 9 were killed in 5 minutes. I'm guessing he had to reload unless he used a shovel.;)

My friend got bit by a small young copperhead while picking beans. It got him on the hand. He had pain and soreness for almost a month.

This one crawled between my feet as I was loading the tractor.

A.J., you are extremely lucky that copperhead didn't bite. I have foot problems and always have to wear comfortable shoes instead of boots or my feet swell up. I'm always double cautious about where I'm putting my feet. I had a cousin who went out to pick beans wearing flip-flops. She spent the next two weeks in the hospital and almost lost her foot because of a copperhead bite. As Kyle said, it can ruin your month or even longer.

I'm just north of Houston and last year we killed several (5-6) copperheads most of them in the late spring and through the smmer. Dog was bitten by one in November (I think). Haven't seen any yet this year though. 2 Rattlers, some black snake (yesterday) all came up on the porch. Rattlers are now "good" snakes. The black one got relocated. Mean though, didn't like being handled! Problem with copperheads is they don't seem to retreat. They tend to freeze as a defense mechanism and then strike if you come with in range. Hard to see amongst leaves!

Yep. You folks in the warmer corners of the continent can laugh all you want when we have to deal with blizzards...short growing seasons...and road construction that takes up ALL of the warm weather...

But then again, we don't have those things. I'm not overly religious, but there's a reason that snakes are mentioned as being problematic...they are something to avoid...OR KILL.

Nice shot...AND I have no doubt it'd be a nice group if you'd fired a few more shots. Clearly you have the same feelings for these critters as I do. Best option for a snake...DEAD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:D

That's ok Keegs, we have a tradition down here. We fill a bag with the little copperheads and toss 'em in any van we can find down by the river. j/k :D

Yikes and good shooting.

Was weed eating and hit a small one about four feet from my front door about a month ago. Had no clue he was there until I saw the body fly out from being hit by the trimmer line.
