JD Sabre 2048 Deck Belt routing

Hey All,

My son-in-law has a JD Sabre 2048 and got a stick caught in the belt. The belt flew off and he bent the main pulley. He nor I can figure out the belt routing to put it back together. The manual only shows a two belt setup and his is only a one-belt configuration.

I'm not a newbie to this stuff but this is sure kicking our butts.

Any help would be extremely appreciated.

Looking for info on your mower. Does the deck have 3 blades?

I am not sure this is yours. Does it look similar?

I had that mower.It was a 3 blade unit. I don't remember the specifics, but I thought it had a routing plate on the mower deck. ARE you replacing the drive belt or the deck belt. I am pretty sure you have to take the deck off to replace the drive belt. The mower belt is released by a handle that is pivoted to move a pully toward the outside of the deck.

Yes very similar. This is not the layout that my son-in-law had in his manual.

But it does look like the one. The way they show the idlers is a little confusing because the picture shows then as three different sizes but they all have the same "item" number. Not that it matters much. The pic is what I needed.

The routing plate is nowhere to be found. I was hoping that the decals kit would have it but it does not. Oh well...

Another great post! Thank you. I was able to get the picture from your first post.

I have a 1984 JD 950 in my garage that I bought to fix and flip. It had a bad tranny (which I knew). Little did I know that the tranny had already been apart and butchered with a welder. Long story short, almost a year and $3K later, I finally have all my parts and am looking for the time to start putting it all back together. I never would have have thought a 1984 machine would be so hard to get parts for.

I guess it serves me right for just jumping in and not doing my homework first.

Thanks again for the help. I should be good to go. I will post an updateafter we get the Sabre going again.
