Any Horseshoe Pit Pic's Out There? Starting One...

Ok, I've got too many honey do items, but with my project ADD and more folks coming over to the homestead, I purchased a nice Horseshoe Set and am about to jump into a pit construction. Since I've got so much thick field stone, I'm thinking of making the throwing lanes out of that vs concrete or other material..just to be different. Interested to see if anyone else out there throws shoes and if I could glean some ideas that you like about yours....

if you want to keep the competition playing be sure locate in shade,:thumbsup: it can get awfully hot out in the direct Sun,
I have mine setup under nice shade tree's and even with having shade I also drag out my 48" shop fan we sometimes toss for hours, which reminds me I need to freshen up the sand for Sundays event

I'm thinking it is going down by the lake for the breeze and shade (sorry on the dark pic), it runs North / South so even if I open up for some more light on the lake side we should be ok. That area now doesn't get anything but water and mosquitos. Thinking of building it up, and building the pit in place as I'm doing the fill... Have plenty of sand also...

I recall our neighbor Gene and his friends playing for hours on the weekend and his boisterous laughs that would warm up the neighborhood... Figure, if I build it they will come...

Refreshing an old thread. I'm heading over to the neighbors today for the annual horseshoe tournament. We usually get about 20 people. Most of them only pitch once per year. I have a pit in my back yard and the neighbor has 2 pits and adds a temporary 3rd for the tournament. We'd probably play more if it weren't for corn hole. I prefer shoes myself. I sure wish I could find some good blue clay.

Is anybody else still pitching shoes? I checked out the 2018 world results and as usual, 23-time World Champion Alan Francis won again. He pitched over 85% ringers.
