Help ID a Flail Mower and Value

That little gem appears to be a very wide Mott Mower.
I would offer $750.00 for it as has the grass slicers
meaning it is a finish mower for good sod and heavy
brush both.
A finish mower flailmower of that size from JD
and others starts climbing above $7,500.00 new.
You can still purchase bearings, grass knives,
belts and pulleys for these things by the way.

It is a 72" model. Will my L39 w/ ~30hp at the PTO be ok for this?
I won't really be cutting much "sod" with it...more tall grasses and brush. Will this be good for that?

Yes you can mow brush with it, we have a motorised lawn genie that we use for both good sod and brush with grass knives.
You could also dethatch and overseed with it as well if you have a lawn sweeper to pick up the thatch.
My father had 7 foot John Deere finish flailmower mounted on a Ford Jubilee and he had zero mower issues and it turned the pasture back into nice clover.
You have to go slow with it when mowing and be sure the roller is in contact with the ground as the rflail mower rotor creates a huge suction to suck the grass and brush up and it creates a horizontal air foil out of each grass slicer which aids in mowing and it will bring it down to the sod for you with no question as all the grass slicers will shred it all into tiny bits and they dissolve quickly.
Buy it quickly before someone else steals it out from under you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That looks identical to the mott fine-cut 72 that I bought a few months ago, (and subsequently sold).
I needed help Iding like you. Members here were very helpful. I ended up sending pics to flailmaster.com and they positivly ID'ed it as the fine cut 72, based on looks, and number of hangers. (92 i think).
Anyway, what is he asking for it? I paid $150 for mine going in but it had bad bearings and a bad PTO shaft. I re-build the bearings, new PTO, and fresh paint for a total additional cost of ~$150. So I had $300 invested, and then sold it for $600.
Sometimes I see flails on c-list go REALLY high, and sometimes they are dirt cheap. So it is hard to say what one is worth.

How long has he been trying to sell it?
Maybe try asking what his best price will be? or offer him $500 and see what he says? Worst he can do is say no.:thumbsup:
