4710 transmission repair costs

I would really like to have a 4710-20 but funding is problematic. Local dealer has a 4710 Power Reverser (my desired trans) with a cab and 800 hours for $13,000 asking. Have not seen it in person, but the note "hi transmission out" appears on the listing. Obviously this is a fixer upper, but it seems with the low hours and cab that it might be worth a look.

Any ideas on a best to worst case repair cost range?

Seems odd that the dealer would not fix it if it was a simple repair? No idea what it could cost to fix it...

High Range out? Doubt if that's a simple repair (or cheap). Odds are, if the transmission is broken (see last comment in this post), the tractor will probably require splitting.
However, unless you run your machine on the road, you may never use high range.
I wonder if this 4710 was a rental machine? I have read (on TBN) that some rental yards blocked out high range for safety's sake.

Good thought-that would be great if that was the case! There was a "rental upgrade" kit that included the high range lockout as well as some other guards.

For arguments sake, how would I identify a "Rental kit" modded machine? In the event the dealership overlooked this.

I have no idea...I would think it would just be a plate or bracket to prevent the range shifter from moving into the high range position.
The dealer can look this up, I should think...

I looked in jdparts, but could not find the kits listed.
