FYI, I saw this ad for a YM1700 (green) for sale in southern Ohio. I have nothing to do with the ad, so don't contact me... :D

They're asking $1600, which is a steal! Looks like it's in good shape.

I see another 1700 (early) on CL in Seattle. $1950, nice original paint or expert re-paint.

I think this model is a real sleeper; best capability/price of anything out there if you find one in good condition. And so simple you can keep it running forever if you own a hammer and a screwdriver. :)

Got my YM1600 for $2200 from an individual owner. Searched before the purchase and even though the YM1600 is considered an Orphan Model I purchased her. Not one regret, she has earned her keep already. If, a big if, I re-sold her, it most definitely would be for less, no polish, just a tough girl that will kick most any dudes butt... She still wears her Rice Tires and original paint.

Now, I wish I could physically and financially get one of these opportunities you guys flaunt at me.... Oh Well, Dreaming is fun too....

I paid a lot more for YM1700, but I feel like it was a fair deal. She runs good... and I definitely prefer the red to the green. :D

California -- In addition to the hammer and a screwdriver, I would add 2 wrenches and tin can put over the exhaust.

Certainly good prices on both tractors, there was a thread a while back about this model tractor and the differences in their design compared to the ones ( 1700's)we have, although I cannot remember what the pro's & cons were? if any!

For those reading this thread, keep in mind that the YM1700 does not have a water pump. The cooling system works by convection. The hotter the water gets, the faster it circulates through the radiator. It's a simpler system, i.e., fewer parts, which means fewer things to have a mechanical problem with, BUT if something cuts down on the airflow (like a clogged screen) or the radiator gets really dirty, you can have problems with overheating more quickly than with a model with a water pump. AND you can add a water pump if you feel like it... I haven't and mine runs great without it.

Not much, same specifications, just that you need to specify early/late when ordering parts. In a few cases you are forced to buy a (later) sub-assembly after individual parts were superceded. No big deal.

But it does take a strong stomach to get on a leisure-suit-green tractor :D

That color screams '1970s!!!'

I don't understand why the US Yanmars continued in that weird color after the Japan versions abandoned it.

Disco music does weird things to your brain... but we should probably ask the guy who did van conversions for a second opinion... :)

Oh that color green wasn't incorporated into the custom vans of the 70's, was more purple, reds,Golds and Blues:D
I think it was a japan color thing, however! my son and I were into the color Team green back in the 90's on the KX's which is very similar color:p

I remember things being lime green, like kitchens etc. In the 90s my sister moved into a house that had been remodeled in the 70s. It had 3 bedrooms with long shag carpet, orange, yellow and blue... no green. At the time, I don't think it occurred to her that she was missing green. :D
