JD 2520
What oil weight should I use in my JD2520. this will be the first oil change at 50 hours. I know the owners manual says JD Plus50 5W-30. So I went to my dealer and bought all my fluids and filters to perform the changes and was told that they only carry JDPlus50 15w40. So that is what I bought since even if I had them do the 50hr service they would be using the same oil weight. My concern is winter temps get pretty low around here and I do use the fel for snow . Also why wouldn't a dealer carry what the manuals call for what about warranty . Just curious I am sure the 15w40 will be fine but even my truck get 5w30 but my JD455 calls for the JD Plus50 15w40 go figure.

I personally would not use that oil year round if winter temps get cold.

In your case I would use JD Plus 50 0W-40 synthetic blend or Torq-Gard Supreme 5W-30 . The temperature range is -40F - 122F.

Most dealers you'll find buy bulk fluids and since the bigger tractors run 15w-40 that is what they buy. You can run 15w-40 but they should sell the plus50 in quarts that is 5w-30 and 10w-30 ci/cj oil. The sticker under the hood should say 10w-30 and 5w-30 in the winter. Also is the tractor stored in a heated stable? If so or if its plugged in, it should not matter which oil weight. Either way choose a good diesel oil and you should be fine.
