Thanks for the reply. Yes, I use the Roundup brand and I buy it at the hardware store. Good to know about the generic chemical which is available in bulk...sounds like a big savings!

Regarding lowering the boom on a sprayer. All the models I've checked into (on the web) appear to have a fixed position boom with a spray nozzle at either end.

It's not a big savings. Last year, Monsanto sued the manufacturers of generic glyphosate and won, so now all generic glyphosate manufactured by other companies must pay a royalty to Monsanto.

Business is business and that's fair, in my opinion.

There are much better alternatives available but you need an applicators license.

I'll suggest just getting a 15 gallon sprayer with a wand and a boom. For spot spraying a long driveway, it sure beats spending all day refilling a 1 gallon hand held sprayer, not to mention not having to carry it around and pumping all the time. And for covering larger areas, there is really no comparison when you have the boom to cover more ground effectively.

On my Schaben 15 gallon pull behind, you simply close the valve to the rear nozzles, and use the wand for spot spraying or close quarters. You can adjust the tank pressure and nozzle flow to get a coarse spray to avoid drift. Even then, I avoid treating if there any significant wind.

Still, I learned the hard way about rushing weed spraying when it's windy.....SWMBO was NOT happy, but hey, only half of the Japenese Maple tree died!!!

It still is cheaper to buy the White label 41% glyphosate vs Roundup, there is a big savings.

Imazapur? SP goes by the trade name Arsenol. Its a Railroad and ROW and forestry herbicide. It kills weeds and all trees except pine it has residual soil effect for a while. You do not need a license to buy it but its like $200/gallon

The glyphosate i listed is Way cheaper than that. At the dose rate your using 1.5oz/gallon i can make 213 gallons for less than $37 with tax. THats 3 times the tank mix for half the price your using.

NO need for additional chemicals for anything up to some of the tougher brush species.

Im a licensed pesticide/herbicide applicator. Only reason i mention this is to put validity to my responses.
Cannot argue your figures, but my personal experience (I do not have a application license) has been better with QuikPro on various weeds, tree sprouts, and poison ivy/oak plants.
Clemsonfor - a question, if you would please - Would your application of 1.5oz. per gallon water of 41% solution be an apples-to-apples comparison with QuikPro at the same ratio? I previously used basically the same product you describe at a rate as you state - not nearly as good of results as QuikPro. QuikPro is 73% - but is granular - I'm uncertain whether the measuring cup with the product is by volume or weight. Could I have gotten better results mixing the 41% solution stronger?

Oh Ok i was thinking you were refering to Roundup PRo which is basically a liquid 41% solution. QuickPro must be a higher concentrate granular version if its at the 73% concentrate. So no You would have to do the math but im guessing 1.5 oz of the 73% would be close to the 2-2.5 oz of liquid 41% Gly concentrate. You can do the math and compare as i really dont feel like it now. Just a side not Roundup reay to use or RU RTU is sold at a 1.5% concentrate if you mix 3.5oz of 41% i beleive your at the 2-2.5% range much stronger.

Also Just so you know, i do have a license but its not my day job. Im a forester, overseeing spraying applications, from time to time, so its not like i use it everyday or know all of it off the top of my head.

I just mow my gravel driveway. I really don't see the problem unless you have a new driveway with a lot of loose gravel.

I have been spraying all 800' of my gravel driveways for weeds this year (as in previous years) and i was going to just burn the dead weeds later....but its never going to stop raining here in Idaho. So yesterday, after a month of looking at dead grass littering the driveways, i put the snow plow on the tractor and regraded all the driveways... took a few hours, but the roads all look like new again......needs a little final raking is all.

its nice not to have all that dead grass. I made the mistake last year of spraying roundup with my 14' tow behind sprayer, didn't work. i think i put it on too heavy (its what Ive been told) only the tops died, 2 weeks later, weeds were worse that before. waste of $$$$

think ill plow them under next time again...least i wont have to worry about killing the neighboring trees and good brush...or the horses, dogs and cats.

now if i could just kill them durn mice and carpenter ants.......

 Ditto ... I kinda like the green stripe down the center and it automatically goes away in the Winter. Different strokes for different folks.

I just mow my drive way too.
Looks better than the old dead dried up grass caused by spraying.
My green drive blends in nicely with the green grassy yard.
