To be honest, with the needs you described, and the possibility that your snow may be of epic proportions....a skid steer may be just the ticket. You miht find some good buys on a used Bobcat, JD, or some such. My recommendation comes from experience: I went from a Bobcat (used mostly to clear snow from the drive) to a compact tractor. The tractor does a huge variety of jobs with the attachments that the SS could not do, but for simply shoveling stuff (manure or snow) it doesn't hold a candle to a skid steer.
