IR 60 gal Air Compressor oiled

I have decided to go with a Campbell Hausfeld 60-gal, 10.2 CFM @ 90 PSI compressor for $399.99 at TSC.

Excellent choice:thumbsup: And I would have bought one had I been able to find one at that price.

I'd go up at least one size, in air compressors, bigger is better and has you start using them, you'll eventually need more air.

Also, install a Franzinator to cool the compressed air and reduce the moisture.

Harbor Frieght use to sell a Desiccant air dryer for about $40 but I cant find it on there site.

I got one for my plasma but I plumbed it so all air I use goes through it and I get no water at tools anymore. Well worth it.

It was nothing more than a pipe full of desiccant.

A reasonable fabricator should be able to reproduce it inexpensively enough.

I tried th desiccant dryer route but water was still getting thru to the plasma cutter. A refrigerated dryer worked much better. they were only $250 about 4 years ago. now there about $370.00 at harbor freight.

But these arnt necessary unless your planning on using things like sand blast cabinet, paint sprayer, plasma cutters.

A little moisture wont hurt most other stuff, as long as you lube the device daily. A simple combination moisture/pressure reducer would be all you need. One with a manual draining site glass.

OH, and remember....keep that bottom drain plug drained ....water build up in the tank will destroy your compresor over time. And if you live in cold climate, the moisture will freese up your compressor also.

I thought hard about going bigger, but the "next size" is pretty much double in price. I figure if this one turns out to be inadequate in the future I will move it to the garage attached to the house and get a bigger one for the shop. Right now it should be fine, I have gotten by on much less for years so far.

Agreed it could be made but for the price, everything included, it seemed like a good deal

I'm surprised, did you get water through immediately? or over time? You have to dry out the desiccant (bake it in a oven)...

all i know was i was getting water in the bowl on my plasma cutter. the instructions say not to let that happen. I didn't have a super long unit like that pictured, but it was supposed to stop the water. it didn't.

never dried it in oven, as i didn't keep it that long. bought the refer unit on a bunch of recommendations on a welding site. glad i did. no maintenance at all . never have any water in bowl.

The best way to keep liquid water out of your tools is to use a coalescing filter as near to the point of use as possible. Since air cools as pressure drops, and cooling causes condensation, you need to install it at the point nearest to the tool use, where pressure is lowest and most water is removed. Also, a good coalescer should flow inside to outside, to reduce the velocity through the filter and allow the maximum amount of liquid to coalesce and drain into the bottom of the filter.

Keep in mind that a coalescing filter must be drained regularly, to prevent liquid from being re-entrained in the airstream. Air dryers remove water vapor; coalescing filters remove liquid droplets of water, which is usually sufficient for running air tools.

go with a good oil too.. there are syn compressor oils.
