Stupid question here, but where is the hydraulic filter located? I tried to do the 50 hr. service and can't figure out where it is. The dealer recommended only changing the filter and not the hydraulic oil but the manual says to change both. What have you done? Also it is a powershuttle, is there an extra filter for this?

I did change the oil and it's filter and fuel filter without (much of) a problem.

I assume you have a HST? I have the 1643, so it maybe a little different, but on mine, the hydraulic fluid filter is on the 'driver side' under the step just in front of the rear tire on the frame. Its painted the same color as the frame from the factory, so it blends in pretty well. I recently changed mine and the fluid. Figured its cheap (relatively speaking) insurance to change the filter and fluid at 50 hours.

Well, apparently it is the "small" filter located by the right front tire, outside of the frame rail. The new one I got was much bigger so I had ruled that out (thinking it was maybe an extra filter for the power steering). Apparently the one they gave me was one for the 15xx series. They gave me the correct one yesterday and it looks like it will fit. The original filter is painted gray to match the frame, but I'm surprised it is so different in location than the 1643.

I assume your hyd fluid change went well. I have a 1635. I will change soon as my hours are getting close to 50 . Have you any tips?

I haven't done it yet. Either later today or more likely this weekend. I'm still not convinced the filter near the right front is the main filter, but I plan to find out.

I am picking up my tractor on Saturday, and can send pictures if you like of the filters locations. I loaned it to my brother a month ago. He would have worked it hard , I asked him to run it wide open to help break it in while using the backhoe to remove tree stumps and box scraper for landscaping . I will haul it all home with my Tacoma (125 miles) it will get a testing too lots of hills between here and his place, I suspect total weight of all equipment and trailer will be 7,000 lbs.

I ended up changing the fluid and filter on friday evening. Everything went fine, no suprises. If you find a filter under the tractor, can you get a picture of it?

I think your Tacoma will have a workout pulling your tractor. I pulled mine with a 2007 2500 hd Silverado with the 6.0 gas motor and it was definately working. I think my tractor is in the 7000# range by itself with the loader, backhoe, and rimguard loaded R4's. Add the 2500#, 12,000# trailer it was on and it was a pretty good load.

Towing with the Tacoma was impressive, i kept to the back roads and kept the speed below 60 mph, mostly 50 so the truck did very well, kept the revs below 3,000 on the hills, weight and handling were very good.
I atached the pump strainer picture along with my filter pic should be the same as your.

Wow! That is a lot for that Toyota to haul!

I know this is off subject, but I see you have a Woods BX70 backhoe. How do you like it? Why did you choose the Woods over the MF backhoe? Do you find you use it enough to justify the cost? I'm considering getting a backhoe for my 1643.
