Is there anything else better than Dunkin Donuts coffee..??...:confused3:

Every few months my coffee maker will scale up with the minerals in our water. To clear out the scale I fill up the coffee maker with vinegar and run it through the machine a few times. Then I run a fresh water through the coffee maker to flush out the vinegar.

One day I did not run enough fresh water through the coffee maker though I did not know it. :D I made a pot and took it to work as usual. Got my breakfast, poured a mug of coffee and sat down to eat. That coffee was horrible. Sour from the vinegar. :confused2:

So I went to the cafe and got a cup of Dunkin Donuts coffee.

Started walking back to the my desk and took a sip of what they told me was coffee. :ashamed: Poured that crap out in the bathroom and drank my vinegar soured coffee the rest of the day. :D

My granny used to love Dunkin Donuts coffee but that stuff they sold me was nasty. It had to be nasty if vinegar coffee was better tasting. :D:D:D

Later,
Dan

Fresh ground dark roast arabica. Did you know you can use an old popcorn air popper to roast your own beans?

I don't drink much coffee any more, only when I am in the mood. I have switched to a blend of green tea and mint, and have an iced tea maker for my soft drinks. I pick up tea at Big Lots for $2 a box, which will make 10 liters of iced tea or 20 cups of brewed tea. My wife has a cup of coffee every day. $20 a month for a bag of coffee beans is nothing to be concerned about.

the standard in the coffee groups is coffee roasted not more than a week ago and ground not more than three days ago. Now how old do you suppose the coffee blends in the supermarket are?

If any one is interested in roasting, I'd recommend looking at

I watched a show on a news network, something like 60 minutes . They had like 8 different kinds of coffee and the CEO's from those company's there. They brewed each brand, the majors such as Folgers, Maxwell house ect tra and also some cheaper lesser known brands. The winner was the cheapest brand and was tasted by all the CEO's. The report was that the bigger the Name brand usually they buy "cheap" beans for the quantity, so you get run of the mill coffee. Of coarse 100% Aribica coffee was #1.

Best full flavored we have found, was an off brand at wally world, "Don Padro", but now they only carry it in the small can.

I can't remember the brand that TGIF's carry's, but man that is good, they get it in a liquid concentrate. I checked online and it came from Europe and was like major expensive.

Since I drink coffee, as I tell my friends, "almost by "I.V" I love a good cup or 10-50 a day:laughing: at theses prices coffee has become my "drug" of choice.

Didnt start drinking coffee until my daughter came, figured I would need it, and until then just did with out. Now its just one coffee in the morning, but I do look forward to it. We do have a small coffee plant growing in the house, about 2 years old would love to have my own beans. That would be nice with the high prices.
I did try to grow my own tea plant too, just didnt have very good luck with it.

I don't get it.:confused3: Coffee is a huge bargain. Lets say I pay $13.80 for a 48 oz can. That's 390 cups @ $0.035 per cup. SHEESH! 3.5¢ per cup! C'mon!

I drink Folgers Classic Roast or even the Custom Roast (cheaper). I make a pot of coffee everyday with two heaping scoops of coffee from the 48 oz plastic container. If you buy the 33.9 oz size, you are paying a lot more for each oz. I have terrific well water and use a Mr. Coffee that makes into a thermal carafe. The coffee is heated once and tastes perfect because it never burns. I don't use paper filters, but have a fine screen permanent filter. The coffee is delicious. Of course after drinking coffee aboard ship on the mid-watch that has been in a 30 gallon coffee maker for over 10 hours, I guess anything would taste good. I have been happy with Folgers for as long as I have been old enough to drink coffee. Maxwell House is also okay and Hills Brothers is even good. For awhile I drank Chock Full o'Nuts and enjoyed it. I don't put anything in my coffee; just drink it black and love it.:licking: I'm not about to give it up because of a small price increase. I think it's been a bargain for a long time and due for a price increase. As long as you don't force me to drink Maryland Club :p I'll continue buying and making my coffee the perfect way, just the way I like it.:D

I like variety in my coffee and my beer. I drank mainly Community coffee and chicory for years but now I alternate with French Market coffee & chicory and Eight O'Clock original.

I asked my wife to pick me up some Eight O' Clock whole bean and grind it at the store when she went the other day. I flipped when I saw the bag she brought back. They had started using a new label 6 months ago. I looked at the date and it said USE BEFORE 5-1-11. I had her bring it back and I went to a different grocery and bought a bag and it says USE BEFORE 3-2-12.

So they figure the shelf life of the coffee is at least 8 months and the bag my wife bought was over 10 months old.

We bought one of those $80 Cuisinart coffee makers with the thermal carafe at Bed, Bath & Beyond in January, 2009. It replaced a 6 year old cheap coffee maker that worked just fine, but my wife thought that thermal carafe was a good idea, and I hoped it would be. That Cuisinart lasted about two and a half months before it died. Bed, Bath & Beyond just asked if I wanted my money back or a replacement, so I took the replacement. The second one lasted almost exacly 2 years. So we threw it in the trash and bought a cheap Black & Decker at Walmart that makes coffee just as good. And since it just has the glass carafe, we pour the coffee into a separate stainless steel thermal jug. We do use the paper filters, but neither my wife nor I put anything in the coffee; prefer it straight.

That Cuisinart lasted about two and a half months before it died.

Bird, my first thermal carafe was a Black and Decker model I bought in 1988 for around $50. That coffee maker never quit. the little cutoff valve that sealed as you removed the carafe wore out and fell apart, but I think I still have that coffee maker in a box somewhere. It is stained and nasty, but it never quit working in all that time. It had a white plastic outside with a glass thermos inside. The reason I bought the Mr. Coffee model is that that the carafe thermos is all stainless steel and there's no worry of damage. The coffee maker is also black and doesn't show stains like the white one did. I found it at our local Bowie Walmart on sale for $39. What a bargain!

Jim, I had to buy a black one since everything else in our kitchen is either black or stainless steel. And this Black & Decker cost a whopping $19.88 plus tax at Walmart.
