Bob, thanks for the info on the hydraulic oil color. Mine is yellowish. I have already changed all the fluids except for the hydraulic. That's next, as soon as I get the filters.

I used the machine a little bit today. It does good. I noticed a squeal coming from underneath me when hooking a root while curling the bucket as it maxed out it's digging ability. Is that normal? When using my FEL on my tractor the engine bogs when exceeding it's capacity. No squealing from the tractor.

There are different types of "squealing". The most common, in your case, would be lack of grease and/or misfit in pins & bushings. And the hydraulic relief valve unseating (popping), which is normal when you try to exceed system pressure settings. This can heat up the oil in a hurry if its done a lot.

I usually find it's a grease fitting that no longer takes grease, but I would think that would be in the bucket curl itself. The noise is coming from under the floor of the cab?

Yes. It seems to be coming from near me as opposed to out at the bucket or boom. The sound is similar to a belt squealing, but obviously it is not. When I ease off the control it stops. I don't think it's anything to worry about as it only happens when I am hitting the machine's capacity.

It's your relief valve's spring chattering against the seat. They will do that if they are dirty or the oil is aerated. If it still doing this after you change the oil and filters, check very close for leaks on the suction side of the pump, and disassemble and clean the relief valve (make sure it gets re-assembled to the correct pressure setting).

Another newbie question. For changing the hydraulic filters it appears the return filter is on the end of a tube and you simply pull it up to access the filter. I cannot, however, figure out how to access the suction filter. Perhaps it will be apparent when I drain the oil. Is it accessed from inside the tank too? The manual says remove it with a fork wrench, but it's not real clear on the location.
