Ive got some (unused) veggi oil that has sat around for a few years. Seems like a waist to just put it with the used motor oil....

what are the thoughts of mixing it at about a 20% ratio with pump diesel straight into the tractor tank? (ie 5 gal of pump diesel to a gal of straight veggi oil)

I think you're asking for problems/headaches by doing that.

I think it would be O.K., but I might go more like a quart per 5 gallons just to be safe.

Why don't you mix some diesel and veggie oil in a smaller container at the right mix % that you want to add it to the diesel? See how well it mixes.

I'll bet it'll work fine in the summer. Could give you some congealing problems in the winter.

assuming you only have a few gallons then it's not like you're going to be saving a lot of dollars by using it. advertise it on craigslist for free and you're guaranteed to find someone who makes biodiesel or has a french fry powered vehicle that would love to have it.

if you don't want to deal with the possibility of a strange person coming to your house to pick up two gallons of used oil, find out where they live or work, and offer to do a drive-by drop off when you're already going that direction.

My truck's injectors are $150 each. To change all of them would cost $1,200 just for the injectors.

Will veggie oil kill the injectors?

I have no idea. But I am not going to take a chance on $1,200 worth of injectors to "save" a few bucks on veggie oil.

Our garbage collection center has a tote for veggie oil. The stuff supposedly goes to the local Biodiesel maker.

I just pour my in the compost pile.

It will be fine. I run 20% in the winter and 50% in the summer in every diesel that I own. Have for 5 years now. Might have to change your fuel filter after a couple of tanks though. It has a tendency to clean your fuel system really well.

Petroleum based diesel fuel is the worst fuel that you can run through your engine. The first diesel ran on peanut oil. The whole concept and design was to be able to burn the oils of the land. Unfortunately the government and oil tycoons will tell you otherwise.

Yeah. Watch for or change out your fuel filter after a couple tankfuls with some bio in the fuel. The ONLY time we ever plugged the fuel filter on our 25 year old 1983 Benz was during the 3rd tankful of 5% bio diesel.

This is reported as a quite common problem from bio fuel users. The bio cleans out the tank and system of crud. Crud collects on the fuel filter.
