Diesel using hydraulic fluid for fuel?

I've heard that a diesel motor can run using hydraulic fluid, I just wondered if anybody actually did it. Well? The thread on vegetable oil got me curious (does it smell like french fries cooking?).

I believe they would burn a percentage, but why??? Hydraulic oil cost a lot and if its dirty, you would need to filter it well. Yes, like being at McD's if the right blend of cooking oil. I would bet that Hyd. oil would stink in the exhaust.??It's bad enought to whif any of it while doing seat time..

Not sure about todays diesels but when I had an '82 chevy pu diesel when I would change fuel filters I would fill the filters up with transmission fluid. The motor didn't know the difference.

No way. Especially today's modern diesel engines with particulate filters, urea injection and EGR. Burning anything other than ULSD is a great way to become very familiar with your local repair shop.

I was running low on fuel in my JD 755. Instead of going to the store and filling up the cans, I pulled fuel from my deuce and a half. It was about 25% to 35% waste oil, transmission fluid, and hydaulic fluid mix (filtered) to diesel. The tractor ran fine.

I wouldn't put that in my wife's diesel liberty, but older mechanical injected diesels seem to not care as much as long as it isn't too thick to pump. I would not run 100%, but you can cut the diesel with oil. Try a little and see if it makes a difference.
