Think an M-7040 can handle a Woods BW1260?

Though not quite the same, we use a pull type Woods DS1260 and it has cut everything we pull it through including a LOT of saplings. It is rated for 3", but we have cut bigger though I don't recommend this. We considered the BW1260, but settled with the DS1260. The BW1260 is a very tough looking piece of equipment.

As to Woods quality, we are only on our third year and haven't had any problems; don't know about long term, but our renters have two 15' batwings which they really like and most batwings around here are Woods.

Take a look at what most commercial highway ROW mowers use. You'll see very few Woods mowers. The majority are Rhino or Bush Hog extreme duty cutters. Woods is a decent cutter, but has a less than stellar history when used in continuous duty commercial work. There are exceptions, but most of my competitors, as well as myself, have tried Woods and went another direction. At one point, I was a big fan of Woods products.

I've got one Bush Hog 2715L that has been hitched to one tractor since I bought it. The tractor has a little over 5000 hours on it now. Probably less than 10 hours (on the tractor) WEREN'T logged mowing. That mower will be back for another year at least. Not many mowers of any description get that much use. Some of what we do borders on ABUSE.....

Keep in mind, this is more of a testimonial to the high quality of Bush Hog's heavy duty line than of a condemnation of Woods.

For the "average end user" (whatever that is) or general AG use, Woods is probably more than adaquate.

I am under no illusion that Woods is a commercial grade cutter. The State Highway Department uses all Schulte cutters. We don't have any good Bush Hog dealers in my area.

I am an average end user, so Woods and Land Pride work well for me, if I did mowing for a living, I might look for something better.

Schulte is part of Alamo Group, which consists of Alamo, Schulte, Rhino, and Bush Hog. Schulte offers nothing but commercial grade mowers. They're tough stuff!

I don't want to appear too critical of Woods, as they're very popular mowers. They do offer their rendition of extreme duty and heavy duty cutters, which serve many users faithfully.

I would probably prefer Bush Hog or Rhino over Woods too, but this is Woods' heaviest cutter (they claim 4" cap) so more than enough for me.

The reason I'm taking this one seriously is because it's the right size, price, features and being sold in my area. Most of my customers are in the 5-50 acre range. The future may bring more big customers, though.

This Woods mower weighs 5,400lbs! That's as much as some 15' batwings.
My MX-8 weighs only ~ 1,800 lbs.

Yeah, sure. 55HP will run it with no problem. I don't bog down until I have the mower set low in really thick wide-bladed grass that's 6 feet tall and even then, it only bogs down maybe 100 RPM.
The side shift is the bomb! just that extra 2' of manueverability makes it easier to transport, get through gates, avoid stumps, etc.

Ha! I'm not really brand loyal, so the green hooked up to the orange is Okay for me. So far it's been a great cutter.
