Does anyone have a used 8N tractor starter?

I need a starter for my 1950 8N. Mine just crapped out on me. It spins freely but 12V @ 2amps wont spin it 12V @ 40amps barely spins it and 12v @ 200amps spins but gets really hot.

Pull it down and check the brushes...grease the bearings.

It spinns really nice and smooth it just calls for too much amps to get it to spin even with out a load on it.

How about taking it to an auto-electric place, they may be able to solve the problem.

I thought about that and called a place that repairs starters and alt. and asked for a ball park figure and he wanted $80.00 So i mine as well buy a new starter motor for that price. I'm trying to sell my tractor so I don't want to put alot more into this. (I've already dumped alot of money into it already)

I have had starters rebuilt before. It was cheaper than a new one, and I knew the history of the unit. I found the quality better than the typical parts store rebuilt starters.

Did you check you cables to make sure the connections are bright, clean, and tight?

$80 sounds high to just fix the problem. Last one I had done was $35.

Must e regional. Last starter I had rebuilt was in the $80-100 range. For a '89 F250 with a 351W.
