If you look at the pictures it appears the tractor was trying to go uphill, you can see the skid marks for all four wheels including the fronts swerving to cause the jacked trailer, which obviously flipped sidways upon the immediate stop. It didnt have to do anything with "people standing up". Figure 18 adults at 150 lbs and 35 kids at 50 lbs and your at 4500 lbs plus at least 3k for that trailer. Thats alot of weight for a 2wd tractor. Probably lost traction and weeeee away it slid down the slippery grass. Stupid operator is what it boils down too. At least thats my best guess from a picture.

If Canada is anything like America, laws won't matter. That farmer just lost everything in lawsuits.

Apparently it's not like US (Canada is actually part of { North} America). A few years ago in a boat racing drivers' meeting just west of Montreal the sponsors made it clear to US participants that personal injury lawsuits in Quebec are limited to actual damages and almost nothing is ever awarded for pain, suffering, emotional damage, etc. That was a few years ago, may have changed.

Yeah, more like an overcrowded cage ride.
Looks like it happened slowly with the trailer just laying over at the end, but with all those people no doubt there would be plenty of bumps and bruises.

Looks like a 2WD tractor and will 53 people say at 150 pounds each plus the trailer. It was probably about 10K pounds. Going down a wet grassy hill with brakes on only 2 wheels.

I'd make a WAG that he possibly started downhill too fast and probably in too high of a gear and the weight of the wagon plus people pushed the tractor out of control over riding engine compression and causing them to increase speed. I believe the driver then tried to use the brakes to slow down but it's a John Deere tractor with power brakes and I bet he panicked and locked the drivers up. Sliding on green grass just crushes the leaves and makes it "greasy". Once the drivers locked up it would be almost inevitable that the whole kit and kaboodle was going to jack knife.
It's definitely bad judgment on the drivers part for sure, and possibly bad judgment on the adult passengers' part for not saying anything to the driver. It's a distinct possibility that some did try and the driver either didn't hear them or ignored their concerns and others were probably too inexperienced to make an informed decision either way.
It was just good luck that no one was killed.

Hmm downhill... Close enough. Unfortunatly if they all got in i doubt any of them had any real knowledge of tractor characteristics. They put faith in the operator like too many do these days.
