2005 Kubota L2800 HST with Woods hoe n loader
By chance anyone have first hand experience using a log splitter powered by the hydraulics on a L2800 HST Kub?

Just wondering how powerful n fast the splitter is when powered by the Kub's hydro pump that also power the drive train n Woods back hoe n loader?

How many GPM's do you get at the rear remotes?? We had a MF 1523 with 5.4GPM, and a Wallenstein WX310 log splitter, 1 full cycle was 60 seconds, but rarely needed more than half a stroke.

Have not timed it on our MF 1635, with 11.7GPM at the remotes. The way I see it, it splits faster than I could with an axe, so I was happy with it. Even happier now with more GPM.

Will, Thanks for your reply.

As far as my L2800 flow rate:
My owners manual was hidden by my wife, it will turn up someday (I hope). But I looked it up on the net some place and it may be only 6.4 GPM but I did not find the PSI.

My Kub is a 2oo5 L2800 HST, if any one has there manual handy, love to know the flow n PSI rate and any other pertinent info I don't realize I need at this time.

I still am in the discovery stage I guess, not sure what I will do.

To me, it makes sense to use the Kub's diesel motor n hydro system to power my splitter but if it is extra slow it may be better to buy a gas powered splitter????? Suspect a gas powered splitter is lots easier to re sell when that day comes but my heart is not in it for some reason.

My manual says 6.5 for the L2800 with pressure at 2277

They way I see it, is I only want one engine to maintain. If i ever wanted to get a second engine, it would be a wood processor, then it also be a diesel engine. Can't beat the fuel sipping nature of a diesel.

Thanks Guys,

I too do not want to buy and maintain a gas powered screamer engine for a log splitter that is used for 8-16 hours A YEAR than sits the rest of the year sucking up moisture making rust.

However, candidly speaking, hate to run my Kub's engine near red line to get a decent ram speed either??????

Adding a two stage PTO pump is an option to probably gives you the PSI n PSI you need to run the ram at a decent speed n tunnage but costs lots more too and needs a fluid reservoir to boot.......

Still in the decision more i guess........ But I thinking I'm leaning on a tractor powered splitter direction so far.......

needs a fluid reservoir to boot.......

Since I was having trouble finding a used 3 point splitter, I almost bought a splitter with a blown engine. If figured I would take the engine and pump off and just run it off my tractor hydraulics. You could look for one like that as well and maybe use the reservoir on the splitter along with a PTO pump on your tractor.

Either you are running at idle, or you have a major restriction somewhere.

cycle times for a 4" x x24" cylinder @ 5.4GPM should be about 25 seconds. Which is still pretty slow for a log splitter. Most commercial units are 12-15 seconds. But man, I couldnt imagine 60 seconds. You could dang neart take a coffee break inbetween each peice:laughing:

Out and return was around 60 seconds. Does that count as one cycle, or two??

The 1635 is tons faster than the 1523 was, but at 11.7, it should be. :)

We do not rev it to the moon, around 1500 or so for the 1635. I will have to time it at 2200 or so, just to see.
