I agree with you 100%. When businesses condone or encourage these practices it only hurts the honest techs and businesses. Many years ago I was offered a job with a national tire chain. The manager told me when business slowed down in the winter the lesser productive techs were fired. So, the honest tech has to compete with the dishonest tech who sells customers unneeded parts and extra services or cheat on work performed. Needles to say, I did not go to work for them. Unfortunately, these practices are involved in more than auto repair. I know someone that worked as a checkout clerk at a clothing retail store. The bottom credit card sellers kept their hours getting cut and cut until they would just quit.
Not always but often these franchise owners own several different brands of franchises. They install cameras in the service bays, sit at home or yacht in comfort and bark out orders to all of their managers and watch the numbers as they come in. This is sort of like playing the stock market with no personal emotions attached to the workers and customers with the bottom line being the only concern. The manager in the video was probably that type of franchise owner.
