My brush with TSA

That's why I made sure to say it was Customs not TSA.. Just a word of warning about sending items through checked baggage was the point.

Customs is not the TSA.

When this thread fades, I am going to make a list of the complaints lodged against the TSA. All who can contribute, please do so! It ought to be humorous.

It is unlikely that your story has anything to do with the TSA, but the context of the discussion definitely implied that it did. I simply and succinctly clarified the point in as non-confrontational way as possible.

If you have suggestions for making such clarifications in a better way, I'd be willing to listen.

One time I had the "Good" Luck to be one of the first passengers selected to go through their "Puffer" chamber.

Kind of like a phone booth where you are blasted with air and then the air is sampled while you are inside...

I commented on my luck and the dozen or so officials kind of smiled... some were from the company another I guess had just installed it and the rest worked for the airport in various capacities...

Had to comb my hair after being puffed and vacuumed.

I've learned not to be surprised... rewired and did a service upgrade my home and for the final it was the head electrical inspector and 5 new-hires... each was tasked independently to look for any problems with my work... like I said, I'm a lucky guy.

Oh, my work passed...

In todays news, a woman was not allowed to take her insulin on the plain with her. Shed did the smart thing by asking for names. All the TSA people headed for the hills.
Now what would have been done if she needed her insulin in flight?

For some reason it took the TSA guys about 15-20 minutes to get the rounds out of the mag. They naturally wouldn't let me help, but at the end after the PD said I could go, the TSA super asked me "How do you get rounds out of this? We had the hardest time." I said, "I have never emptied one by hand, I shoot them out". I wasn't trying to be funny but we all busted out laughing.

Like my Kimber .45 magazines, you push them with your thumbnail from the primer side outward. They will pop right out of the mag but like you, I usually shoot them out.

I'm very careful about what is in my pockets and I always segregate my firearm bags from personal items bags. I have a concealed carry so anytime my stats are run on any LE computer, the CCP shows up.

I regularly carry multiple firearms, I shoot match pistol and rifle.

I got stopped the other day in the car for speeding (5 over) and the officer came up to the window and the first thing he asked was if I was carrying a weapon. I wasn't. He just said to slow down a bit, which I did. Around here, have a concealed permit can be a lifesaver as far as traffic tickets are concerned. I've heard of that happening, before.

I travel enough to be comfortable with it, and know that what the TSA does is try and make people feel secure. I also have in implantable medical device, ICD, so I go through the scanners and every now and then I get patted down by TSA. I have a huge deposit of calcium on one leg that makes a hard knot there. Most agents miss it, but when found most of the time I tell them it's me and they let me go. I have been drug to the back room so people can look. Kind of humiliating, but they are just doing their job. Once in the back room I usually just drop trough and say SEE!!! Its me... I've learned not to rush them cause it makes em nervous, so I get to the airport way early in case something happens.

Now for those who fly on a regular basis. What if my ICD or pacmaker were actually a little package of C4? Just curious?? Still feel safe? If they wanna take down a plane they will.

same here.. a while back I got stopped turning from a 55mph road to a 20mph road, and guess i was still doing a lil over 20 when straightened out from the turn..

first thing LEO asked me was if i had my weapon on me.. which I did.. he asked what it was ( sig p230 ), he acted interested and said he liked sigs.. sounded like he wanted to see it.. so i asked if he would like to inspect it.. handed it over in holseter after firt removing magazine and clearing chamber 2x.. he looked it over, we talked, he handed it back after about 5 minutes of gun talk, and said he was giving me a warning and be carefull..e tc.

I fully believe my ccw saved me on that one... at least in that situation where the LEO was interested in guns.. etc..
