When I'm cutting across grade in the ditch the tractor starts to die out. The grade is only about 25 degrees and if I turn straight up hill it catches again and runs fine. Since it's a diesel I can't see this being a fuel issue. I am leaned quite a bit to the uphill side for balance so I might be taking some weight off the seat safety switch, but I thought being a switch it would either be on or off, not intermittent. Anyone run into this before

Why are you mowing a 25 degree side hill? Are you sure its 25 degrees?
You are looking a serious roll over accidentif the angle is that steep.

You are either sucking air when on the slope or you have moss or algae in the tank which is plugging the inlet screen.

Thanks leonz, it may not be 25 degrees, that's just a guess. Tank was filled just the other day. I wasn't aware that moss or algae could exist in the fuel, this is my first diesel. If that was the case, is there an additive to clean it out? Is that inlet screen accessible for cleaning or replacement?

I would surely check everything mechanical before looking at fuel. The seat switch or other safety switches are suspect in my opinion. You might reverse direction and see if the problem occurs the same. With a full fuel tank, you should be able to go way beyond 45 degrees and still get fuel feed.

The inlet screen is at the base of the tank.
The issues that Jinman brings up are also valid
as the seat switch is a safety switch that requires
you to have a load in the center of the seat.

Any "diesel" treatment will work for you as far as
a fuel conditioner but the main worry is algae,
but using 2 ounces of Seafoam per tank always helps.

I will not hurt you to find the fuel filters and plan on adding
a Racor fuel filtration canister after the tank and before the final filter
to get rid of all the crud in the tank as well as the water in the fuel.

Just be sure to eliminate the first filter after the pump as you will no longer
need it for your Kubota.

Had the same problem with my g2160 and I replaced all the fuel filters and fixed the problem.

I do not have this model so this is more of a question, does the seat switch only shutdown mower when the blades are engaged? If so, try driving same grade with blades disengaged and see if mower runs fine to see if it is a "butt not on switch" problem

That's the first thing I got rid of on mine.

If you think it is the seat switch, unplug it and put a jumper wire on the mower side of the harness.

When on a grade and pending on which direction you are traveling, the foreign matter is directed to the fuel line exiting the tank. Obviously, the inline fuel filters (2 filters) trap almost all of the the debree. The filters can be changed and the problem may be solved for a while. Eventually the inline electric fuel pump will fill with debree which was not stopped by the first filter. The pump is located inline after the first filter. Remove the electric fuel pump and backflush it. Reinstall it and you should be good to go. Set on a flat surface, motor running, with the blades engaged and raise off the seat. I think you may detect a differance in the way the engine sounds as it shuts down; Electrical or fuel starvation. LJB
