Boone,
In your search have you looked at the LS Tractors, if so how did they compare to the Mahindras? I saw an LS U5030 at the dealer and was impressed but now i need to find a Mahindra 6530 or 7060 to look at.
Thanks again for your time.
Dave

Dave :
I'am not the rite person to make any comments on LS tractors, don't know much about them.Besides what I on occasion read on TBN about them.I live in extreme SW/Fla out east, home of the cottonmouth, pygmy rattler, gator, wild hog and bikini's.As you are aware being down here in a peninsula we are limited to land space,my closest LS dealer is 50 miles away(north) and they just started selling them 3 months ago.Hopefully some TBN member more qualified than me with LS knowledge will see this and be able to answer your question.

Brandi,

found the Specs links last night shortly are sending the original post, figure the odds. Now have to start diging through them to figure out what they have. Do you know if they have a page that show what the dirrerence is between the series, or do you just have to dig through every series and try to figure it out.

I am looking at a 50 - 65 PTO HP tractor for farm use so weight to pull farm equipment is an issue so it looks like the 30 or 60 series is the answer, but i saw a 00 series pop up every once and a while but no details.

Thanks for your help,
Dave

Dave,
Glad to hear you figured out MUSA's website. I don't think they do any comparisons between models

I have a 6520 4WD. Only tractor I would trade it for is a 7520 or the new 8560. The 7060 and 8560 are Tier IV versions of the 7520 and the 6520.

The 7520 and the 8560 have all the hp you need for those heavy hay wagons and balers. They also have 17 gpm hydraulic pumps and 2 speed PTOs.

The 00 series has been updated. I think it is the 30 series now.
Some things I have learned in comparing tractors, including Mahindras are ...
Look at hyd pump output carefully....sometimes mfgs. combine hyd and steering pump output together.

Also, for balers, go by PTO hp and not rated engine hp.

Look at all numbers and varifly them as to what you are needing. My 6520 has a 4 cylinder non turbo engine. I didn't want a turbo like on the 7520, but sure would have bought the 7520 if I would researched it more and found it put out 6 more gpm from the hydraulic pump. I think that $2000 mistake would give me more power with less rpm running my backhoe.

Boone,

Thanks for the info. As i mentioned in my reply the Brandi above i am also looking for a 65 HP PTO tractor for use on a farm and weight is a concern. It needs to be heavy enough to conteract the weight of a baler and full hay wagon hooked simultaniously on hilly ground. Some of the Mahindras look like the will fit the bill weight wise. I think the 30 or 60 series are their full size tractors with some weight.

I was a little surprised to see the engine specs, most of the Mahindra 65 HP tractors specs that i looked at show approximately 150 CuIn displacement, but other brands 65 HP tractors are approximatley 200 CuIn so i don't know how Mahindra is getting that much HP out of a significantly smaller engine.

I did read a bunch of the reviews this morning, but have to temper that with the fact that they were all reviews from recent purchasers and vetted through Mahindra so i would not expect to find very many negative reviews. I would be nice if there was an agency like Edmonds.com that provided actual reliability ratings for tractors:).

Why would you look at an LS U5030? It only has 48 PTO horse power. If you want to compare apples to apples, then you should be looking at the LS heavy utility tractors. I believe that you will find that there is no other tractor of the same HP that will spec out better than the 8560. You will need to jump up 1 or sometimes even 2 HP sizes to be able to spec out better overall than the 8560. Now that is not to say that the other brands don't offer some features that sure would be nice on the 8560,(mostly tranny and clutch features) they do and those features could make a person go to another brand.

The 8560 has a 203 CI turbo charged inner cooled engine that has 83HP and 70 at the PTO. Maybe they are getting the extra HP from the inner cooler? I believe that the 8560 is the only current Mahindra model that has 65 pto horsepower or actually more. (70 at the PTO)

I have a Mahindra 7520 4X4 and the 2 things that I wish it had was a 16x16 tranny and a cab. The 12x12 trans works fine, but it would be nice to have a few more gears.

Brandi, why did you not want a turbo? They are one of the most reliable engine features around. Have you had problems with other turbo charged engines?

Brian,
Just past experience in the late 70s working on Mooney aircraft that had aftermarket turbos installed. Too much maintenance on them back then. Always changing out the abestos lining. Like I said, not enough research on the 7520...........and the dealer had a 6520 on the lot, but with pin on bucket. Again..................not enough research!

Dlauffenburger,
Cubic inch and hp differences can not be compared with turbocharged engines and today's tuned emission equipment. Used to be you could say x amount of cubic inch equalled y amount of horsepower. Not now a days.

Also, mfg. specs are all subject to marketing elongating the facts.

My father has a Case 1070 (107 HP) which we use for all of the heavy work, so i was originally looking for a tractor in the 50-65 PTO HP range to use for general farm/loader work and to fill in if the Case goes down temporarily. The LS U5030 fit that size range pretty well and it has 16 speed synro transmission and while it is not a heavy weight it has respectable weight. When i started looking at the Mahindra website last night i noticed that the transmissions are 8 speed until you get into the 60 series tractors and the 7060 is the smallest in the series. So really i wasn't looking for a 70 HP tractor but was forced in that direction in order to get to a better transmission.

As i mentioned in a previous post i have not had the opportunity to actually look at a Mahindra yet, hopefully i can get to the dealer tomorrow.

Brandi,

Thanks again for the info. I did not see the 7520 on the web previously, it is listed in the limited availabilty section. The 20 series isn't even listed on the main page any longer so i am assuming that the 20 series is being discontinued.

The Hydralic pump output info is very useful.

Correct. The 20 series was replaced by the 60 series. Thanks for informing us on Y'alls bigger tractor. Gives us the bigger picture.

I believe that at this time, the LS tractors are the best bang for the buck. The U5030 is a very nice tractor indeed, sorry for the misunderstanding about the sizing issue. You may want to look at a Mahindra 5035, they are a beast of a machine, but the LS's would be hard for me not to consider because of the 16x16 trans and the pricing.

Good luck with your search and let us know how it goes.
