5.8 Earthquake just hit Virginia

Come to LA. 5.8 is your alarm clock going off. It is so bad people don't even wake for it. Seriously. But having been through two big quakes (7's) it is scary as all heck. Feel for the people, it is not a lot of fun to suddenly realize you have very little control over your destiny when it comes to mother nature.

We felt it in Yanceyville, North Carolina. It was a small rumbling. It felt like a logging truck going by. No damage. Two of my grandsons installed a home made earthquake warning system on a tree in their front yard. It consists of three soda cans connected by twine. My wife got a kick out of viewing their warning system. Happy tractoring- Creekbend:laughing::laughing:

ya, i grew up in Calif.....earthquakes are just something that you expect to happen. I slept thru the 1994 Northridge quake ...something like a 6.7 or 6.9 or there abouts. Dont have any of them here in north idaho , so maybe it would wake me up now days.

It was felt in NE Pa I just got home from work and was sitting on the couch.Soon I feel the house shaking I thought it was the daughter doing her PX 90.She came running down the stairs asking what happened.

My brother in law called about 30 minutes ago and said they felt the shaking pretty hard, he lives near Bealton Va.

Our schools are closed for tomorrow. The area was shook up pretty hard.

Where are you located. We felt nothing here in the Winchester & Strasburg area. It seems that the shock was felt mostly north, south and east of the epicenter.

I was in Huntington, WV working today when the quake happened and I felt it big time. At first I thought I was getting dizzy but then I noticed the building moving. The guy in the next room was walking around and dint notice it.

I was in Easton PA, right on the NJ border. We felt a gentle smooth circular movement, a gyration is the best description I can come up with. It stopped just as we realized what was going on. There wasn't any damage, or even anything falling off bookshelves, but it was enough for us to evacuate the chemical plant where I work. I was afraid of a pallet rack in the warehouse area toppling.
